Happy, happy Friday!
I don’t have any fun favorites to report on today so thought I’d stop by with a little life update. It’s been a hot second since I’ve done one of these. And I feel like that’s always what I say in regards to life updates.
Let’s catch up over some virtual coffee!
VIRTUAL COFFEE DATE – November 2017
▶︎ If we were having coffee today… we’d talk about what I’m up to these days.
Answer: A little bit of everything:
- taking two classes for grad school.
- teaching yoga sculpt 3+ days at week at CorePower Yoga.
- hosting events once a week or so with my company Holistic Happening.
- freelance writing here and there
- and of course all things Kayla in the City
Some days it feels like a lot and I’m paralyzed because I don’t know what to work on at any given moment. In those moments I usually make a new playlist for Sculpt because that’s WAY more fun than schoolwork. Other days I feel like an asshole because who am I to complain, I don’t work 9-5.
My schedule is weird and sporadic. It requires me to wake up at 4:15AM some days and go to class until 9PM other days. And sometimes I do both in the same day. This is my life right now. And I also know this weird schedule is temporary while I’m in school.

▶︎ If we were having coffee today… we’d talk about grad school. I CANNOT believe how fast this semester is flying by — and that’s something I never thought I’d say about grad school.
I’m taking two classes this semester and it’s going A LOT better than my previous semesters. This is definitely thanks to working with really good groups on group projects. It makes SUCH a difference! It also helps that I find the classes interesting — advertising and social media marketing.
I only have 4 classes left after this semester (!!!) which brings me too…

▶︎ If we were having coffee today… I’d tell you that I’m graduating this summer! AHHHHHHHHH!
I didn’t confirm this until last week and now I’m freaking out about it. Part of me is SO excited, as you know grad school hasn’t been the best experience for me. BUT the other part of me keeps thinking oh sh*t that means I have to get my life together!
What’s gonna happen after I graduate? Uh, good question.
My post-grad school aspirations could probably be a whole solo blog post. My career goals have shifted since I applied to grad school almost two years ago. I’m also a bit burnt out on all things social media if you haven’t noticed. Because of all this I’m not 100% sure what my path will be after college and how I will utilize my degree. I have a few hopes and dreams and ideas. But nothing concrete. My natural instinct is to freak out and do everything in my power to plan for the future. The other part of me knows I should relax and trust that things are working themselves out. We shall see!

▶︎ If we were having coffee today… we’d talk about how teaching at CorePower is going. I’ve been teaching a few Yoga Sculpt classes a week for two months now. With each class I feel more confident and comfortable teaching. BUT I still have many [many] moment of: Did I *really* just say that!? Moments when I legit forget what a reverse fly is called. Really, Kayla? I’ll blame it on the early wake ups 😂
I still pinch myself that I teach at CorePower. Since I took my first CPY class in LA it’s been a dream of mine and I can’t believe it really came true. I’ve been thinking about doing a huge post on what you need to know about Yoga Sculpt and tips for first timers / newbies. Let me know if you have any questions about Sculpt!

▶︎ If we were having coffee today… we’d talk about Holistic Happening.

The secret is lots and lots of caffeine 😂 A part of me is SO excited to almost be done with school and then there’s the other part that’s terrified. It’s been nice having grad school as an excuse for being a hot mess!
