I realize that most of these favorite things have virtually nothing to do with health and wellness.
Yes I teach yoga / yoga sculpt. Yes I work out 4-6 days a week. And yes, I have been known to eat sauteed kale for lunch every day. But obviously there’s more to my life than wellness. I like to think of these weekly posts as simply what I’m loving, some shows I’m binge watching, and things that are bringing me joy. You might say it fits into my WELL-rounded approach to healthy living. No, not the time for a shameless podcast plug? Moving on…
THESE ARE A FEW OF MY FAVORITE THINGS // VOL. 8
▶︎ Unseasonably warm weather in February.
The weather in New York this week was freaking fabulous. I went for a walk Wednesday afternoon in just a dress and sneaks and was sweating when I got home. That’s how warm it was. Okay and I’m a sweaty person. Forever, sexy.
But seriously, something about a random warm day in winter fills me with SO much joy. If you had the heat wave too I hope you were able to enjoy 🙂
▶︎ Spotify + Hulu student discount
I’ve been a member of Spotify for a while now. It’s a game-changer as a fitness instructor. When I first started teaching 5+ years ago I’d have to buy all the songs I wanted to play on iTunes.
I had NO idea that Spotify has a sweet student discount that includes Hulu for $4.99. HOW HAS NO ONE TOLD ME ABOUT THIS? I was paying more than that for just Spotify. Now I got Spotify and Hulu for mad cheap. If you’re a student and like streaming thangs, get on it.
▶︎ Watching Community.
Speaking of Hulu, Jeremy and I started watching Community on Hulu. We are obsessed. We’re not the binge watching type, it usually takes us awhile to work our way through a new TV show. In ~3 days we demolished season one. It’s that good.
Also I’m pretty sure I’m a hybrid of Annie and Britta. Annie’s awkwardness and innocence for sure. With a dash of Britta’s independence.
▶︎ Season 4 of America’s Next Top Model
Still speaking of Hulu, they have every season of America’s Next Top Model available for streaming. I used to live for Top Model marathons on TV. Now I don’t have to, I can watch every episode whenever I want.
It’s been a hot second since I’ve watched some of the earlier seasons. The show feels SO different now. I decided to start with Season 4. Okay, I tried to rewatch the first season but it was too awkward even for more to handle.
I have a few theories as to why Season 4 was in fact the best season of Top Model:
- that time the girl faints. Like, WHAT?
- the flesh eating virus. So. Much. Drama.
- and of course the most iconic moment of Top Model history: the moment when Tyra freaks out at Tiffany.
So yeah, every episode ever of Top Model, on Hulu. You’re welcome.
▶︎ the tomato zucchini soup at Peacefood Cafe.
The vegan restaurant Peacefood Cafe has been a godsend for me since I went [semi] dairy-free. They opened around the corner from me literally weeks after I realized I was [probably] lactose intolerant. Since then I’ve been one of their biggest fans and get takeout lunch or desserts from there a few times a week.
I’m currently OBSESSED with their creamy tomato zucchini soup, which I’m pretty sure is only served on Wednesdays. With a side order of seitan it’s the perfect “light” dinner for me before my evening class for school.
▶︎ leggings from Zella
I’ll admit, whenever I order something from Nordstrom’s Zella line of active wear I’m not sure what to expect. Like yeah, they look cute online. The price is pretty good for fancy workout pants. Butttttt is the quality good?
But without fail I’m always pleasantly surprised with anything I’ve ordered from Zella. The quality is good, the fabrics are super soft, and they know how to make a bonbass high-waisted yoga pant. And high-waisted = my favorite.
Pictured is the Live-In High-Wasited Legging in the black city streams print (<— they’re $59 which I know isn’t cheap but is considerably cheaper than Lululemon these days)
I also got these cute mesh leggings in a sort of olive green color that I’m obsessed with. Lesson learned, Zella has GOOD stuff.
[Please note I did receive a gift card from Nordstrom from a previous partnership. I was not asked to past about the leggings and was not compensated otherwise]
▶︎ Once On This Island on Broadway
Oh. My God. THIS SHOW.
Once On This Island is definitely my favorite show I’ve seen on Broadway this season. It is spectacular. I went with my BFF David while he was here from LA. There were moments that made both our jaws drop, we could NOT handle ourselves. The staging is unique and inventive. The set is unlike anything you’ve ever seen before. And the cast is also phenomenal, not a weak person in the batch.
I was in a very mediocre high school productive of Once On This Island. Since then I haven’t listened to the music whatsoever. Seeing the current Broadway production was this surreal whoosh of memories from senior year of high school.
I will be back to see this show again for sure.
