I haven’t done a day in the life in SO freaking long!
Like many of you there’s no “typical” day in my life. There are certain things that happen every week — I have my 4 classes that I teach every week at CorePower Yoga and classes for grad school Wednesdays and Thursdays.
This is a look at this recent Monday. On Monday’s I teach an early morning class at CorePower Yoga. Besides that the rest of my schedule changes every week. Sometimes I have a lot of meetings, other times I have nada. This particular Monday I was also subbing an afternoon class and squeezing in a podcast recording.
It’s definitely an example of one of the more crazy days in my life. Every day is DEFINITELY not like this. But on average I’d say I have non-stop day like this once a week or so.
Here’s how my Monday went down:
4:30AM: Wake Up & Get Ready
Technically my first alarm goes off at 4:15AM. Ugh.
I set 3 alarms on mornings I teach early. One — I’m SO paranoid my alarm won’t go off or I’ll sleep through it. Two — I like to think of the first alarm as a warning. You don’t have to get up now but really really really soon. I’ll finally get up at 4:30AM.
My morning routine before I teach is pretty low-key. I brush my teeth (duh), put on water-proof mascara so I look sort of awake. I get dressed. Eat a luna bar. And then I’m off to the studio to teach.
Once I’m at the studio I settle in — make sure the room is heated to a toasty 90 degrees, put some music on and attempt to wake up before I teach. I find the hardest part of teaching early morning is not finding the energy but getting my brain to wake up. I’m always flubbing my left’s and right’s. But sometimes I do that later in the day too…
6:00AM: Teach Yoga Sculpt
As difficult as it is to wake up early I love my 6AM crew. I get a lot of the same people coming to class at that hour. It’s been fun to get to know them and I also feel like I can really tailor class to their ability.
7:30AM: Workout
After teaching I take the Yoga Sculpt class after mine as my own workout. Even though teaching is super physical it’s not truly a workout for me. It’s about the people in class. I still make an effort to do my own workouts. It’s my “me” time plus I love supporting my fellow CorePower instructors.
8:45AM – Coffee + Travel Home
Before heading back to Manhattan (I teach in Williamsburg) I get Starbucks (grande, soy, no water chai with an extra pump of chai).
This particular day it’s snowing out. Ugh. The streets are SO freaking slushy.
9:30AM Get to Work. Sort of
Before diving into work I take a quick shower to rinse off. Since I’m teaching later in the day again I don’t wash my hair.
Still snowing — what my rooftop looked like that morning. Yes the roof deck in my building is on the 5th floor. It doesn’t make sense.
As you guys know I’m on a total journalling kick these days. After showering I sit down and do my morning pages — 3 pages of stream of conscious writing. Sometimes I choose a prompt to get me started. Other days I just go for it and write whatever is on my mind.
I answer any time sensitive emails and write out my to-do list for the day.
10:45AM Make lunch
I decide to make a super early lunch — hey I’ve been up since 4:30AM! I literally only know how to cook one thing — kale + chickpeas sauteed in coconut oil with nutritional yeast. All over rice.
I eat lunch and start watching the most recent episode of Project Runway All Star’s.
11:45AM Record a Podcast Episode
I set up my little microphone and record an episode for my podcast WELL-rounded interviewing yoga teacher and health coach Ashley Pratt aka Investmint Baker. We seriously had SO much fun recording and ended up talking for almost two hours. Stay tuned for the episode to go live 🙂
2:00PM Coffee Break
Even though I’m pretty hyped up after recording with Ashley around this time I start getting sleepy. Comes with the territory of waking up mad early.
I head out to grab a soy vanilla latte and go for a walk while listening to a podcast. Luckily the snow has magically disappeared and it’s not too wet out now.
I try to go for an afternoon walk almost every day. It helps me recharge and I always get good ideas from the podcasts I listen to. Okay and the caffeine gives me a little boost too.
3:00PM Homework time
Ugh, homework. I always struggle to switch gears from the fun parts of my life (teaching, podcasting, blogging) to schoolwork. Especially when that school work involves statistics. This assignment ends up being a bit of a bitch and took a few hours total to complete. I only have time to work for 90 minutes though before I have to head out to teach again.
4:30PM Back to the studio
Time to bundle up again and head out to teach the 5:30PM class. I’m subbing for another instructor
5:30PM Teach
This is the first time I’ve ever taught an evening class at CorePower, SAY WHAT!?
7:00PM Homeward bound at last
I originally had dinner plans with my best friend but with both decided to reschedule for later in the week. I’m secretly relieve because it’s been a LONG day.
I instead grab sushi on the way home from my FAVORITE place Japonica. They know me by name. And they also know my boyfriend and parents at this rate.
After eating I take another shower. Dudes I get SO damn sweaty when I teach in the heated room.
8:30PM Draft up a blog post
I don’t usually do work again this late but I REALLY wanted to get this blog post up for Tuesday.
10:00PM RELAX
Time to relax at last. Drink some kombucha (and you may be wondering, “can you drink kombucha everyday?” Yes, you can) and finish the episode of Project Runway I started while eating lunch. And then end up starting a new episode of Top Model. Even though I’ve seen more or less every episode over the years from various cycles I’ve been working my way through some of the earlier seasons on Hulu. It’s total mindless television and just what I need sometimes.
11:15PM Crawl into bed
Of course my absolute favorite. I get to curl up in bed and READ (I’m currently reading Sociable) while also texting Jeremy about my day. I only last about 10 minutes before I start falling asleep while reading. Time to go to bed.
Bed time at last!
