Dudes, it’s been awhile since I sat down to write a post. And not just the show notes for the podcast. It’s also been a hot second since my last coffee date. I love these posts because they’re a chance for me to share a little bit of everything going on in my life.
Let’s catch up!
Iced latte season, you are the best season 🙂
Virtual Coffee Day – May 2018
If we were having coffee today we’d talk about… grad school. Let’s get the not-so-fun things over with first?
This semester felt like a BEAST. Yes, I’m dramatic. But it really did feel like a struggle fest at times.
I took three classes this semester:
- Interactive and Direct Marketing
- Market Research Tools (AKA lots of math, my arch nemesis)
- a course on international marketing in Scandinavia. It culminates in a trip to Copenhagen and Stockholm (more on that below)
The semester is finally [sort of] over. I still have my trip abroad later this month and research paper to write as a part of that. I apologize for the radio silence lately — and 100% blame finals. They took a lot more out of me than I anticipated. For me I struggle to juggle additional commitments when I’m in study mode. So blogging fell to the wayside.
But now I’m done with finals. My group projects got handed in. And it feels like the biggest sigh of relief.
Also on the topic of grad school: My initial plan was to graduate this December. I only have one online class left before I complete my degree (!). I had planned to take it over the fall instead of summer.
I don’t know what came over me a few weeks ago but suddenly I thought “Why not finish it this summer?”
Yeah, it means taking the course in a 6 week format versus 16 weeks. But then I’m done. Done with my masters degree. This thing that has felt like a burden looming over me for the last two years.
So, I’m graduating this July. Cue ALL the panic.
✨
If we were having coffee today we’d talk about… life after grad school!
The big question I get asked is What do you want to do after you graduate? That’s a great, great question. And I don’t know the answer.
I’ve said this before but I have a good idea of what I don’t want to be doing post-grad school. Everyone thrives in different environments. Four years ago I took my first 9-5 job and it felt like a breath of fresh air. I was so burnt out after juggling five part-time jobs. Most of which I hated. Going to an office and staying there all day felt oddly relaxing.
But now? It doesn’t feel like the best fit for me. I can’t sit still for starters.
I love teaching yoga and yoga sculpt. Like seriously, I leave the studio in the BEST mood after every class I teach.
I love writing and blogging and podcasting. And it makes me sad I haven’t been able to do as much of that lately with the stress of grad school weighing on me.
One of my biggest fears is that with a full-time job I’d have to give up something. And I don’t want to, these are my passions. And I do make money doing them.
So I don’t know what’s going to happen after I graduate in July. We shall see?

If we were having coffee today we’d talk about… my birthday! I’m turning 28 TOMORROW!
At what age do you no longer get super hyped about your birthday? Whatever age that is, I don’t think I’ve reached it yet because I’m SO excited.
I’ve lucked out over the years and have been able to avoid school / work on my birthday since my 19th birthday.
My birthday plan is pretty much identical to last year — take class at Uplift, get a massage, eat some sushi and then go see a Broadway show at night with Jeremy. We’re going to Frozen. Because I’m turning 28 but love Disney.
When shit got crazy this semester I kept reminding myself it will all be over by my birthday. Knowing that I’ve (almost) survived has got me so excited for my birthday. I freaking made it.

If we were having coffee today we’d talk about… my upcoming travels! As I said above I’m heading to Copenhagen and Stockholm NEXT WEEK with school.
I’ve never been to either city and after studying them all semester I’m SO excited to explore both. Have you ever been to Stockholm or Copenhagen? Let me know if you have any recommendations.

If we were having coffee today we’d talk about… another travel I got coming up! I’m partaking in my first retreat as a yoga teacher and I’m SOOOOOOOOO excited.
The Weekend Sabbatical is a 5 day career adventure allowing professionals the opportunity to recharge and step back to evaluate how they can grow in their careers. I’ll be co-leading a trip to Nicaragua with Max Linkoff, a business and leadership coach. We’ll be adventuring in Granada and it’s surrounding areas, climbing volcanoes, swimming in crater lakes, and completing a social impact project
The trip is applicable for any type of professional no matter where you are in your career. This includes doing well and trying to plan out their next steps, a transition of a new job or career, trying to add more fulfillment to your role, or you just want the opportunity to travel to a beautiful location. Like seriously, look at where we’ll be staying

omg girl that trip to Nicaragua sounds absolutely incredible!!! and you absolutely SHOULD be ecstatic for your bday because it’s your freakin’ day and you can do whatever you want on it 🙂 i’m super excited for you to be finished with your degree that much earlier than you anticipated – it may feel like a lot at the time, but i promise you will be SO relieved when you’re done! as for what comes next? i’m confident the pieces will fall into place for you when it’s time for them to 🙂

I think finishing early will def be the right call, and means once it’s done it’s done. At first I was worried about finding work for the summer and then having school tacked on again in the fall. Now I don’t have to stress about that.
