It’s my birthday!!!!
As I did when I turned 24, 25, 26, and 27 (!) here is my annual birthday post with nuggets of wisdom I learned from my 27th year. I don’t know where I’ll be one year from now. What I’ll be doing. But I’m excited to see what 28 brings.
27 Things I Learned From 27
▶︎ 1. Journalling is POWERFUL. Before this year I hadn’t journaled in years. Since I was a young, twerpy, melodramatic teenager. Journaling has been such a great way for me to ask myself big questions. And release the thoughts and things that are bothering me.
▶︎ 2. You can’t manifest something if you don’t know what it is. Duh. But I hadn’t realized this until recently. I was starting to feel frustrated that things weren’t falling into my place. Why don’t I have my shit together? But then I realized I was lacking clarity and focus. Ya gotta know what you wanna manifest in order to manifest it.
▶︎ 3. You gotta move in a way that works for you. Moving in a more intuitive way has changed my approach to fitness. And it’s also changed my body in a positive way.
▶︎ 4. Putting yourself out there is scary. But worth it.
▶︎ 5. Despite my Valley Girl accent, my voice is powerful. Both literally (I’m freaking LOUD!) and figuratively.
▶︎ 6. The right people will make grad school suck a little less. Find your [grad school] tribe. Love them hard. And make them work with you on group projects.
▶︎ 7. Despite being an introvert, leading 20 sweaty humans through a yoga sculpt class fills me up.
▶︎ 8. When in doubt go for a pod-walk. Tired? Go for a podwalk. Uninspired? Go for a podwalk. Pissed off? Woman, go on a podwalk!
▶︎ 9. I need to be better about managing my energy, not just my time.
▶︎ 10. The hard work will pay off some day. It’s not always immediately. Sometimes it’s 5+ years later. But it will pay off.
▶︎ 11. Taking a staycation was the best thing I could have done for my health. And it’s something I hope to do again soon.
▶︎ 12. When your body is breaking out in hives and mysterious ulcers, it usually means you need to slow down. Take a hint and SLOW DOWN
▶︎ 13. I will never not love musical theater. Even though I’m not pursuing it as a career.
▶︎ 14. Dealing with a Hip injury sucks.
▶︎ 15. Every year I become more and more authentically Kayla. I no longer feel so held back by my awkwardness and my fears.
▶︎ 16. You gotta protect your energy.
▶︎ 17. If it’s not a HELL YES it’s a HELL NO. Seriously, don’t say yes if you really really don’t want to do something!
▶︎ 18. There will be ebbs and flows in life. Sometimes things will be CRAZY. Other times you’ll watch 6 episodes of America’s Next Top Model in one day. And both are okay.
▶︎ 19. It’s okay to be scared of what’s next. You just can’t let it paralyze you.
▶︎ 20. My worth is not defined by my social media following. Or the number of likes on my most recent pictures.
▶︎ 21. My self-worth is also not defined by how busy I can be.
▶︎ 22. It’s okay to slow down. It doesn’t mean you’re weak. Or lazy.
▶︎ 23. You don’t have to have everything figured out.
▶︎ 24. I actually don’t totally suck at learning people’s names! I just need to make an effort to learn them…
▶︎ 25. Alone time and recharging is more important than “networking” and being “seen.”
▶︎ 26. Not everyone is going to get it.
▶︎ 27. Baths are pretty sweet. Why did it take you until now to start taking baths again!?
