Prior to going to Europe with business school I owned zero business casual outfits. Since college I’ve only worked at start-ups and fitness studios where yoga pants and jeans were part of the dress code.
When I learned we’d have to get “dressed up” for this trip I panicked. Me in slacks? Oh hell no.
After trying on every pair of slacks I could find in Soho (only a slight exaggeration) and a lengthy session with a personal shopper at J.Crew, I found me some business casual looks that I loved and I didn’t need to get tailored. A rare feat when you’re only 5’2″.
The versatile romper.

Romper // Banana Republic
Shoes // Kenneth Cole
(mine are regular leather, these are the patent leather version)
Y’all know by now how much I love a romper. They’re just so easy to throw on when you’re feeling lazy. This particular one from Banana Republic is so freaking versatile. Prior to this trip I’ve been wearing it with white Converse or Birkenstocks in my “every day life.” I will for sure be wearing this romper all summer long.
Pretty in Pink.
Outfit details:
Blazer // J.Crew (I think pink is sold out)
Cami // J.Crew
Black Jeans // J.Crew
This. Freaking. Blazer. I am obsessed.
I wore this outfit two ways: first with slacks (yes I now own a pair of slacks! Look out world!) and then with black jeans that I pretended were slacks. Hey, no one noticed and I still looked tres chic in my opinion. And I also actually looked my age (28) for once. I can’t tell you how often I get told “You look really young for your age.” I’ll enjoy it while I can.
Also, the pink reminds me of my signature nail polish color in high school — Fiji. I’m pretty sure every girl went through a Fiji phase at some point in their life…
simple black dress.

dress // J.Crew
When I first tried this dress on I thought it was meh but then I realized it’s a good, simple, black dress to have in my wardrobe. It’s a bit longer than I like my dresses to be, but it’s still form fitting and gives me some shape.
The weather in Europe was much hotter than I anticipated… and there was a lot less AC in Europe than I would have liked. This dress came in handy and I ended up wearing it a few times during the trip. Going forward it’s an easy dress to throw on for the Jewish holidays or a more formal job interview.
