Some people hate spending the summer in NYC. I am not one of those people.
The streets are quieter, especially true in my ‘hood since I live near NYU. My favorite restaurants no longer have a long wait. And there’s no shortage of fun, free, things to do in the city.
I know it’s not officially summer, but it sure feels like it. I’ve been happily rocking my sandals every day since I got back from my trip.
On my bucket list this summer:
NYC Summer Bucket List
1. Attend a Shakespeare in the Park performance at the Delacorte Theater. It’s one of my all time favorite summer traditions with my family, and I’m excited for the musical adaptation of Twelfth Night.
✨
2. Go to Governors Island. Jeremy and I are OBSESSED with Governors Island. It’s been a favorite of ours over the last few summers. I’m looking forward to heading back for a day of lounging in hammocks and bike riding on this quirky island.
✨
3. Do yoga outside. I’m SO not into nature, but I do love doing some outdoor yoga on a rooftop or in a park. I’m also excited to be teaching rooftop yoga again with Wellness Official the morning of June 28th and July 26th. Hope to see you there!
✨
4. Ride my bike on the West Side Highway bike path. The thought of riding around Manhattan on my bike still kind of freaks me out. But I enjoy riding on the West Side Highway bike path where I don’t have to worry about cars.
✨
5. Enjoy Summer Streets. Every summer on the first three Saturdays in August seven miles of NYC streets are shut down to cars and opened to the public for running, walking and bike riding. Back in my short lived running days it was the perfect way to log some miles. In recent summers I’ve loved renting Citi bikes with my mom and riding up and down Park Avenue South.
✨
6. Go for a swim at my parent’s rooftop pool. It’s gonna be HOT this week so this might happen sooner than later.
✨
7. Go to a Yankee game with Jeremy. We already went to one game with friends a few weeks ago, but it’s one of my favorite summer traditions and I’d love to go again. Nothing beats spending the afternoon eating popcorn and cheering for the home team. I promise I’d also happily go to a Mets game, too 🙂
✨
8. Go to the beach. I am SO ready for a beach day! From Manhattan I highly recommend going to the Rockaways, I went twice last summer and it felt like a dreamy vacation.
✨
9. Eat fresh corn. Okay, this one is totally weird and not specific to NYC but I love fresh corn in the summer. I always forget to get it when it’s in season but when I do it legit tastes like summer.
✨
10. Take a flying trapeze class at Pier 40. I used to be an avid flying trapeze-r. When I was in college I’d take class at least once a week. I haven’t been doing as much flying these days but in the summer I love going to the outdoor location on Pier 40. You get a pretty sweet view of downtown Manhattan from the board.
✨
