By the time you read this I’ll be on my way to Costa Rica! I’m teaching yoga as part of a retreat with The Weekend Sabbatical. I’ve always wanted to go on a retreat and now I get to go on one as a yoga teacher!
My monthly intentions have slipped through the cracks the last few months. I’ll blame it on grad school because I blame everything on grad school. Well I’m done with school and it’s time to get back on track and back to intention setting.
August Intentions
Go with the flow
Easier said than done for me. But I’m really, really, really, going to try to do this this month. While I love the idea of travel and going new places, it also makes my inner control freak REAL anxious. There are a lot of things not in my control on my trip to Costa Rica. I will do my best, though, to go with the flow instead of getting stressed out about stupid things.
Enjoy summer
I tend to spend all of August sad that summer is ending. It ends up ruining August and instead of making the most of it, I wallow in the idea of summer ending. Kayla, it’s not over yet! It’s still gonna be warm until like October.
Pace yourself
When I get back from Costa Rica I’ll be subbing ALL the classes at y7 and CorePower. Which is awesome, I love teaching yoga and hope to make enough money teaching yoga that it can be my main gig. But I also have to remember to pace myself and take care of myself when I’m teaching 10+ classes in a week. I plan to balance out all the extroverted energy with lots of alone time in my apartment watching mindless TV.
Do what lights your soul up
As I start figuring out my next career move, I of course want to focus on doing the things that light me up. It’s that tricky balance of finding a career that you love and also making enough doing that thing to support yourself. A balance I have not yet achieved, especially not with the cost of living in NYC. But I haven’t lost hope that it’s possible. So this is a friendly reminder to stay focused on this end goal.
Start making moves
July has felt like a weird month for me. I forget that less than I month ago I was finishing up my thesis for school. The weeks since I finished school have flown by and now it’s time for me to start making moves. And uh start making money. When I’m back from Costa Rica it’s time to get organized… and potentially start writing cover letters.
Bonus: Go to the beach. I haven’t been to the beach yet this summer and that’s NOT okay. Especially with the Rockaways being only an hour away via subway. I’m hoping to make my way to the beach at least once this summer.
✨
Your turn: What intentions are you setting for August?

I love every single one of these and I’m so excited to hear about Costa Rica when you’re back!! I definitely want to ‘enjoy summer’ this month before it flies by – I have so much travel and work planned that I’m afraid it’ll come and go before I know it. I guess I just need to schedule it out in my planner just like I do everything else… haha
