I’ve done a few “day in the life” posts over the years:
When I was working full-time at a start-up. When I was in grad school and doing my internship for school. The early days of balancing teaching + grad school. And this past spring when I was still balancing teaching + grad school.
A lot has changed over the years. I’ve had approximately 4328905 different jobs. Only a slight exaggeration. And right now I’m focused on teaching and freelancing full time.
One thing that has [ironically] stayed the same is that I literally always make sautéed kale and chickpeas for lunch or dinner. This is a pretty accurate representation of my life because I make it almost every day. Mainly because it’s one of the only things I know how to make.
I digress.
ANYWAYS. I personally love reading “day in the life” posts, especially for people that have “non-conventional” jobs. With my current schedule no two days are the same, but here’s what went down yesterday: teaching 3 yoga classes and some freelance work in between.
A Day in the Life: Teaching 3 Classes + Freelancing
5:45AM Wake Up + Get Ready
First class on deck is 7AM in Williamsburg which means I need to be out the door by 6:15AM. I like to give myself a full 30-minutes to get ready in the morning before teaching. My morning routine is pretty low-key: brush my teeth, put in contacts, put on a few swipes of waterproof mascara so I look awake and eat a Luna Bar while reviewing my playlist / sequence for class.
7:00AM – 8:00AM Teach yoga class #1
First yoga class of the day is a We Flow Hard at Y7’s Williamsburg location that I’m subbing. It’s my third week of teaching at Y7 (!!) and I’m slowly but surely starting to feel more confident teaching the We Flow Hard format.
After class walk to the subway, grab some Starbucks of course, and head home.
9:30AM – 10:30AM Teach yoga class #2
Class numero dos of the day is subbing at Y7’s Flatiron location. I don’t have a ton of time in between classes but luckily I live walking distance to the Flatiron studio. I decide to head home so I can lounge on my couch, briefly, before heading back out to teach.
11:00AM Lunch time
After teaching two heated classes I’m SO excited for lunch. As I mentioned above, I make the same thing for lunch almost every day: sautéed kale and chickpeas over brown rice with nutritional yeast and lemon juice.
I eat lunch while watching Queer Eye on Netflix. I just started watching the new Queer Eye revival and I’m already OBSESSED.
Also, note the Birkenstock tan line. Wow.
Afterwards I take shower #1 of 3 for the day. Teaching hot yoga is a sweaty business.
12:15PM Work Work Work Work Work
After making lunch and cleaning up I sit down to conquer my to-do list. Teaching yoga is one part of the things I do for work. I also do a number of brand partnerships on the blog and instagram and also recently started freelance writing for a health and wellness website.
On the to-do list:
- create new playlist for PM class I’m teaching
- review sequence for PM class I’m teaching
- write article for writing gig
- email drafts for social media posts to companies I have on-going partnerships with
And while all this is going on I also do laundry. Guys, my current laundry situation is RIDICULOUS with teaching 8-10 hot yoga classes a week. I’m constantly doing laundry. And wishing I had a washer + dryer in my actual apartment. Hopefully someday…
I take a break from desk work to fold my laundry while listening to my new favorite podcast, Alright Mary. It’s a Rupaul’s Drag Race focused podcast and I’m obsessed.
3:00PM Coffee Break
When I start losing momentum I know it’s time for a coffee break. Head out to get an iced (soy vanilla) latte. And walk around for a bit and listen to some more Alright Mary.
Back home I have a quick snack of Simple Mills crackers dipped in Gotham Greens pesto (BEST COMBO EVERRRRRR) before heading out to SoulCycle
4:30PM SoulCycle
Time for my own workout! Y7 has a bombass deal with SoulCycle that staff can take free classes as long as the class isn’t sold out. I’ve been taking advantage of this perk A LOT. It’s been a good workout for me to squeeze in because there are a few locations walking distance to my apartment. AND it’s low impact which is fabulous on my tired-from-teaching legs.
This class thoroughly kicks my ass. But Ariel plays Ashlee Simpson’s (You Make Me Wanna) La La, which makes up for it.
5:30PM I feel like I’m dying.
After SoulCycle I start to kind of feel like I’m dying. Okay, I’m being slightly dramatic. But at this point I’m starting to feel sleepy, despite my earlier latte. I take shower #2 of the day so I don’t smell while teaching, and then proceed to sit like a lump on my couch for awhile.
And yes I took a photo to commemorate this moment.
I’ve been dealing with a SUPER raspy voice for a few days and I’ve been trying to eat a lot of soup to *maybe* help. For dinner I end up ordering Chinese food — egg drop soup and fried rice. Mainly because I’m feeling lazy and know my go-to place always delivers in like 10 minutes.
I watch some more Queer Eye until it’s time to head out and teach the final class of the day.
8:15PM – 9:15PM Teaching yoga class #3
Class number 3 is Slowburn at Y7 Tribeca. I consider walking downtown for a hot second. And then decide that’s an awful idea, my legs feel like lead after SoulCycle.
It’s my first time teaching a Slowburn class at Y7 and I’m a bit nervous but it happens and I don’t spontaneously combust. Or totally forget my sequence. I’ll consider that a win.
9:45PM – 11:00PM Home + Bedtime
Pick up some vegan strawberry cheesecake from Peacefood Cafe on the way home. Their cheesecake is the best thing that’s happened to lactose intolerant. Eat some cheesecake, watch some more Queer Eye of course. Take my third and final shower of the day.
Crawl into bed with my book (I’m currently reading Smothered) and text back and forth for a bit with Jeremy before it’s bedtime.
Yesterday was definitely a bit more exhausting than usual but right now I’m typically teaching 1-3 classes a day with other work mixed in.

Love day in the life posts! This one totally brings me back. I can relate to that feeling when you sink into the couch after a few classes and trying to gather up the energy to teach just one more. Total exhaustion. You’re doing a lot girl!
