I feel like it’s been a while since I got a little woo-woo on this wellness blog. Today’s woo-woo topic of discussion: diffusing essential oils. Yes, this is a sponsored post with Chesapeake Bay Candle, but if you follow me on instagram you know I’m a fan of diffusing oils.
I’m not going to pretend that diffusing oils changed my life, but I definitely do enjoy integrating them into my daily routine.
I’m a believer that scents can be super powerful. Whenever I get a whiff of the perfume I used when I was in middle school I’m instantly transported back to that [awkward] time in my life. I look at diffusing essential oils in the same way. The scent of lavender reminds me of yoga and therefore is inherently relaxing to me, ya follow?
Like I said, I won’t claim diffusing oils will cure all your life ailments, but it’s a nifty (and delicious smelling) tool to enhance your environment and set a mood.
Today I’m excited to partner with Chesapeake Bay Candle to share their new 100% pure essential oils and essential oil diffuser. This brand new line from their Mind & Body Collection was created for those that are wellness minded and looking for aromatherapy benefits. The line features 12 individual 100% pure essential oil products as well as 3 100% pure essential oil sets and 6 (really cute) decorative essential oil diffusers. Seriously, how amazing is this pink and sparkly diffuser?
What do the different scents mean?
Getting into essential oils and aromatherapy can be really overwhelming. I love that Chesapeake Bay Candle decided to name each oil with the intention behind the fragrance — for example the lavender oil is appropriately named “Asleep.” The “Calmness” blend mixes geranium, vetiver and grapefruit.
When I was deciding which oils to choose, I focused on what things that I want to cultivate more in my life. It’s not ironic that these are intentions I’m often times theming my yoga classes based on. I settled on:
✦ MINDFULNESS: Fragrance of cinnamon, cardamon and cedar. The benefits include: grounding, strengthening and warming.
✦ BALANCE: Fragrance of patchouli. The benefits include: balancing, mood-enhancing and stimulating to keep you centered
✦ CALMNESS: (<— my favorite one of the batch!) Fragrance of geranium, vetiver and grapefruit. Benefits include: soothing, calming and clarifying.
✦ INHALE: Fragrance of eucalyptus, fir and sage. Benefits include: relaxing, balancing and purifying.
✦ and of course ASLEEP: Fragrance of lavender. The benefits include: relaxing, stress relief and calming to support a stress-free mind before you go to sleep.

How I Use My Diffuser
Winding down at the end of the day
I’m a total night owl and struggle to wind down at the end of the day. It’s been especially hard lately now that I’m teaching classes in the late evenings. I’ll get home around 10PM still hyped from teaching but I know I need to go to bed soon if I’m teaching early the next morning.
Sometimes I’ll start brew up some sleepy time tea and get my diffuser going with a scent like Calmness while I watch mindless television on the couch. I know for me often I need to give myself time to veg before I’m ready to get into bed. I find it makes a big difference, when I start the “chill out” process even before I make my way into my bedroom.
While I’m reading in bed
I’ve found diffusing oils with lavender while I get ready for bed helps me wind down. It’s like my brain suddenly knows it’s time to go to sleep. I’ll crawl into bed, turn on the diffuser and have it going while I read in bed. I swear it gets me calm and sleepy every. single. time.
While I’m Working
When I’m not teaching, chances are I’m sitting at my desk working. Lately that looks like lots and lots of writing and answering emails. I love to diffuse oils while I’m sitting at my desk and switch it up depending on what I’m working on. If I’m working on something deeply personal I’ll go for something like the Mindfulness blend whereas when I’m frazzled Balance helps me to stay grounded rather than spin out of control.
