Hiiiii from somewhere in between Liverpool, England and Cork, Ireland! If you’ve been following me on instagram you know that I’ve been traveling with my parents around Ireland and the United Kingdom for the past week. We started off in Dublin before getting on a cruise ship earlier this week. After a week of action packed travel and sight seeing we have a bit of a lull as we’ll be at sea from this evening until tomorrow after lunch.
I seem to have accidentally taken a blogging break (oops) but don’t worry, I’m still here 🙂
This time away from my usual schedule and routine on vacation has given me a great chance to take a step back and think about what’s been going down in my life. Even though my official intention word for 2019 is “FLOW” a word that keeps coming up for me is OPTIMIZE. How can I better optimize my life, schedule, blog, etc. so it all runs more smoothly?
Optimizing My Schedule
The biggest difference I’ve made lately is optimizing my schedule. As you all know I’ve made the transition to hustling full-time as a yoga teacher and blogger. My schedule as a yoga teacher feels way more efficient than it did 6 months ago because I’m teaching a lot of back-to-back classes. Holy moly does this make a difference — I’m no longer running around all day with only an awkward hour of downtime here and there.
Optimizing My Blog
I’ve been at this blogging thang for over 7 years now — every time I type that out it truly blows my mind. Having over 7 years worth of blog posts means I’ve written a shit ton of content over the years. Obviously that’s a very exact measurement.
Not all of my old blog posts are crafted with SEO (search engine optimization) in mind. Not all of my older blog posts have cute graphics. And most of my old blog posts aren’t pinned to pinterest.
I’m making it a point to go back and optimize these old blog posts so more people can find the blog thanks to this old content. It doesn’t mean I won’t still be producing new content, but hopefully it will allow me to work smarter rather than harder when it comes to keeping my pageviews up on the blog. I also really really really need to get my shit together and start sending out a weekly newsletter. On my to-do list when I’m back from my travels.
Optimizing My Work Flow Through Batch Working
Okay, this one is a work in progress and something I’m striving to implement when I get back from this whirlwind month of travel. After reading Shanna Tyler’s e-book “Get it Done” I’m finally feel revved up about batch working. Essentially what it is is batching together similar tasks so you’re not constantly switching from one thing to another. For example, I’d design all my blog graphics in one sitting rather than every day creating a new blog graphic for whatever post is going live.
I’m not 100% sure how this is going to work for me just yet as I like to write my blog posts more on the fly when I’m feeling inspired.
What I’m going to do though is sit down and write out a big ass list of all the tasks I do every week for work — things like:
- creating my playlist + Sequence for Y7
- writing blog posts
- creating blog graphics
- pinning new blog posts to pinterest
- invoicing brands for partnerships
- editing photos for instagram
- answering emails
- learning new choreography for The Bar Method
From there I’ll figure out a more effective work flow so I don’t feel like I’m constantly doing ALL the things. I know it’s supposed to help so you don’t feel like you’re constantly switching tasks from one thing to another.
Your turn: Is there anything you’re currently doing in your life to better optimize the way you work?
