*insert Green Day lyrics about September here 😜*
And just like that is September. Most years I feel really really emotional about summer ending, but so far I’m actually feeling pretty okay about things this year. Maybe it’s because summer isn’t actually over yet in NYC. Maybe it’s because I’ve conveniently forgotten how cold winter actually is…
But either way, I’m feeling excited about a fresh new month — I don’t know about you but I always associate September with a new start. Even though I’m not going back to school this year, I still get swept up in that “back-to-school” feeling.
Here’s what I want to focus on this month:
September 2019 Intentions
✨ HOLD ONTO THOSE SUMMER VIBES ✨
There is something special about summer. For whatever reason I find myself saying “YES” to all of the things. Going to a movie after a 12-hour work day? Sure why not, I’ll chug another iced latte. Stay out until 1:00AM laughing with friends when I need to teach in the morning? Eh, I’ll make it work.
One of the reasons I get so sad about summer ending is that I’m worried all of the fun will end.
I want to hold on to those summer feeling even as the weather starts to get colder. I want to remember that I can say “YES” to fun things just like I do when it’s warm out. Summer is just a state of mind, right?
✨ CREATE RATHER THAN JUST WAIT ✨
I am not very good about making plans with friends. I tend to just wait for someone else to invite me to do something fun. One thing I want to work on this month is reaching out to people on my own to get together — I don’t need to always wait for the invitation.
✨ GET BACK TO BLOGGING ✨
Every summer I tend to take a mini break from blogging. While I love love love blogging and this space I’ve created, the truth is I want to spend summer saying YES to all of the things (refer to intention #1). More often than not I’m spending my free time reading outside or going on a long walk to nowhere.
I’ve had a whole lot of ideas swirling around in my brain all summer and I’m excited to dive back into blogging this month.
✨ RECONNECT TO MY YOGA PRACTICE ✨
Even though I spend a lot of time at a yoga studio teaching I haven’t been so great about actually getting on my mat to do yoga myself. It’s kind of shameful to admit — I’m a yoga teacher and should be practicing what I preach 🙊
So this month I’m making an effort to get back to my own practice which can mean attending actual classes but also just moving on my mat.
✨ TAKE FITNESS CLASSES AT OTHER STUDIOS ✨
I love love love Bar Method and it’s kind of been the only workout I’ve been doing all summer.
There’s nothing wrong with that but I also want to get back to taking other classes I love — I can learn so much from other instructors teaching classes radically different than my own. Time to get my butt back to SoulCycle, Body Space Fitness, The Fhitting and maybeee Solid Core if I work up the courage to go back 😂
✨
