My life is a bit weird and emotional right now as I’m sure you can understand.
During the day I feel totally fine. I’m busy! I’m teaching all the classes! Who has time to be sad about a break-up when they are oh! so! busy!
But at night? Yeesh. That’s when the feels come out most of the time. The weekends too… but that’s a whole other story.
I recently started listening to my co-worker Christie’s podcast From Where She Sits, which I’ve mentioned a few times now on the blog. In one episode (I honestly don’t remember which) she mentioned her “Today Was a Good Day” ritual which she does every night before going to bed.
The concept is pretty simple: She makes a list of all the reasons why today was a good day. It’s a bit inspired by Dear Evan Hansen, a musical I have very mixed feelings about TBH. But the intention behind it? I dig it.
Every night before I go to sleep I’ve been making my list of reasons why the day was a good day. I’ve been typing them out in my notes app on my phone to keep it super simple. Even if I’m traveling I still have it with me.
The reasons can be silly: I ate the most perfectly fresh Reese’s peanut butter cup. I got my nails done. We did one of my favorite exercises in the Bar Method class I took.
And sometimes the reasons are a bit more “meaty.” I got some really positive feedback on a class I taught. Or maybe I got an exciting email about a future opportunity.
It’s been a gentle reminder to find the good in every single day. Even the days that feel shitty and hard. There is still something good in those days, even if it’s just that perfect Reese’s.
I don’t remember to make my list every night, but I’m always happy when I do.

Your turn: Do you have any nightly rituals for reflecting on the day?

i love this kayla!!!!! i try to do my 5 minute journal as much as possible – it’s a similar idea, write a few things you feel grateful for in the morning and again at night. it’s so helpful!!
