Hiiiii from LA! I’ve been here on vacation since last Friday spending time with my bestie and soaking up some sunshine. This week has seriously gone by way too fast. I’m sad I only have 2 more days here and wish I could stay a bit longer. But y’know, work and real-life responsibilities await me in New York…
I’ll do a full recap post of what I’ve been up to in LA soon. Today’s post is some of my favorites from the last few weeks (and a few must-share favorites from my time in LA)
this dress from Abercrombie
I’m always ashamed to admit that I do a fair amount of shopping at Abercrombie. Hey, if it fits, it fits. I got to wear this dress this week (yay LA for having 70 degree weather in January!) and it’s super cute.
this cream colored faux leather jacket from Abercrombie
Another great Abercrombie win. I’ve been wanting to buy a new faux leather jacket in a lighter color and this one is perfect. I like that it’s slightly cropped, has cute detailing on the back.
the white Day Boot from Everlane
I’ve worn these boots almost every day in LA and they’ve been a big hit! I never wear heeled shoes, boots or otherwise, and I gotta say the Day Boot is surprisingly comfy. At first I was worried buying them in white would be super silly but I gotta say they are pretty versatile and I like how they look with both a cute dress and jeans. Now I just gotta do my best to keep ’em clean when I wear them in New York…
Mac Miller’s new album Circles
I could basically write a whole research paper on why Mac Miller’s album Swimming was the best album of 2018… but I’ll spare you. Needless to say, I was very excited for his final album to drop which he had already been working on it before he passed away. The album is SO good. I’ve been listening to it on repeat all week.
I’m especially obsessed with Good News and can’t wait to play it in my yoga classes at Y7 when I’m back teaching next week.
the movie Booksmart
I was secretly hoping Booksmart would be one of the movies on my plane ride here to LA. I practically screamed YASSSSS with excitement when it was. It lived up to my expectations… and then some.
It’s been described as the female version of Superbad, which isn’t wrong but I don’t think accurately sums up just how charming, and hilarious and just plain GOOD this movie is.
Booksmart follows BFFs Amy and Molly on the eve of their high school graduation. Amy and Molly have always been overachievers more focused on getting good grades and into a good college than being social. When they realize their classmates also got into good schools and still partied, Amy and Molly realize they have a lot of catching up to do.
The friendship between Amy and Molly is really lovely. I’m already a mega fan of Beanie Feldstein and she’s at her best in this movie. I found myself trying to stifle my laughter so the people sitting near me didn’t think I was a total weirdo.
I cannot recommend this movie enough, GO WATCH IT NOW if you haven’t already.
*finally* seeing the Cats movie
I finally got to see the Cats movie!!!!!!!!!!! I have a soft spot in my heart for this musical. After reading all the ridiculous reviews I was honestly even more excited to see the movie. Cats never claimed to be a good show, but yet I still love it.
The Alamo Drafthouse here in LA is doing rowdy screenings of Cats. It was everything I wanted and more. Think people screaming “HANDS” every time you could clearly see a human hand in the movie. Singing along. Cheers for every moment with Judi Dench in it. All around excitement.
Salt & Straw vegan ice cream
A few of you recommended I get ice cream at Salt & Straw when I asked for LA recommendations on instagram. They are currently doing “Vegandulgence” month and have a whole bunch of vegan flavors available this month. I’ve had the Sunflower Butter Cup flavor twice since this week. It’s tasty!
the veggie burgers at Fresh
I’m always on the hunt for great vegan food in LA. My friend stumbled upon Fresh on Sunset while he was at an event at Booksoup. We split a veggie burger and vegan cobb. The vegan cobb was good but the veggie burger stole the show. It might’ve been one of the tastiest veggie burgers I’ve ever had. And trust me, I’ve had A LOT of veggie burgers.
I will definitely be back the next time I’m here.
