Happy Friday 🙂 Besides teaching tomorrow morning I have NO weekend plans… and I’m actually kind of hyped about that. I feel like I’ve been going non-stop since I got home from LA so I’m looking forward to a low-key, anti-social, sleep-filled weekend.
Here’s what I’ve been loving lately:
reading
What’s my absolute favorite thing right now? Reading 😂
Sorry if you’re sick of hearing me talk about books on instagram. I’ve been reading more than usual lately for my 52 books in 2020 challenge. It’s been bringing me more joy than I ever could have imagined. Because I’m reading more I’m scrolling way less on Instagram which is definitely good for my mental health. We shall see if I can keep up this reading momentum all year.
the Chicken Paitan ramen from Ivan Ramen
I’ve been on a total ramen kick since I got back from LA. After a long day of teaching, (and talking…) soup is all I want for my throat. I stumbled upon Ivan Ramen on Postmates. The chicken Paitan ramen is heavenly and has the tastiest ramen broth I’ve ever had. I don’t eat pork so I’m always on the hunt for pork-free ramen options (not as easy to find as you’d think!) and this place nails it.
the “To-Go Lite” sushi box from Sugarfish
Another Postmates fave: sushi from Sugarfish. Actually… Sugarfish is just a favorite of mine, period. The “Lite” version of the Trust Me box is the perfect mix of handrolls, sushi pieces, sashimi, and edamame. The way it’s delivered is super cute in the perfect little box with directions on how to consume each piece of fish. I highly recommend and it honestly might be a better option than dealing with the crazy wait at the actual restaurant.
the Bold Type is back!!!
I’m obsessed with the TV show The Bold Type and SO happy it’s back. It follows the ups and downs of three badass Millenials working at Scarlet magazine, a fictitious magazine clearly based on Cosmo. If you love Younger or always wanted to work in the magazine world I highly recommend watching on Freeform.
this almond-scented hand moisturizer from ohii
My hands get SO dry in the winter. Ughhhh. I found this hand moistuirzer from ohii at Urban Outfitters and I’ve been really loving it. I love almond scented things and I like that it’s moisturizing and leaves my hands feeling soft but isn’t greasy.
Fleabag
I remembering hearing all the buzz about Fleabag when it snagged a bunch of Emmy’s. I can’t believe it’s taken me so long to start watching, it’s brilliant. It’s hard to capture what makes the show great but it’s about the main character (only known as Fleabag) and her commentary on life in London as she also comes to terms with a recent tragedy in her life. It’s delightfully British, dry, and breaks the fourth wall a ton.
I recommend watching this video to get an idea of the humor. After seeing that video I was like “Oh, I need to watch MORE!”
Jojo Rabbit
I’ve only seen a handful of the movies nominated for best picture this year: The Joker, Once Upon a Time…, and now Jojo Rabbit. Jojo Rabbit takes place in Germany during the end of World War II. Hitler youth member Jojo finds out his mother has been hiding a Jewish girl in their attic. It doesn’t sound like the happiest or funniest of movies but the satirical approach to the topic is really fascinating and oddly hilarious. It’s the type of humor that you can’t decide if you should be laughing or should be horrified. It felt like I was the only person awkwardly laughing in the movie theater at some of the ridiculous things that happen.
I overall really enjoyed Jojo Rabbit and 100% understood what it was going for but I don’t think it’s for everyone as a movie. I don’t think it’s going to win any awards this weekend but I’m curious to see what director and writer Taika Waititi does next.
What I’m Listening To:
this episode of the podcast Let It Out on Human Design with Erin Claire Jones –Â Is anyone else obsessed with human design? I totally dig it and have been learning as much as I can about it and what I should know about being a Projector. Any other Projectors out there? You can find out about your human design here.
this episode of the podcast Chasing Joy with Davida from The Healthy Maven – I’m a long time follower of Davida’s blog and have so much respect and awe for the business she’s created. Davida recently decided to stop using instagram as a part of her business, which is pretty unheard of as a blogger these days. The episode really inspired me to rethink my own relationship with social media.
