I’m going to Nicaragua next week. AHHH!!!!
I’ve never been to Nicaragua and I’m not entirely sure what to expect from this trip. I’m going with Surf Yoga Beer, the same retreat company I traveled to Portugal with this summer. For Portugal, I went with a friend and ended up meeting a ton of incredible people For this trip I’m going solo. I’m a bit nervous, I don’t always thrive in big group settings, but I also think it’s going to be an incredible experience. As I say in my yoga classes fairly often: it’s important to take steps outside your comfort zone.
As a girl who can barely swim 🙈 going on a surfing trip with a bunch of strangers is a leap outside my comfort zone. But hey, there’s gonna be sunshine and a beach in my backyard. I can’t complain about that!
I’m totally a “last-minute packer” so I haven’t started actually packing. But I’m starting to make a mental list of all the things I need to bring. I’m so excited to try out a bunch of new-to-me products recommended by some of you on instagram!
Nicaragua Packing List:
Supergoop Sunscreen
I’ve been wanting to try a few products from Supergoop! a clean sunscreen company. After reading a ton of reviews on their website I chose a few products to try on this trip:
- Unseen Sunscreen: I’m really excited to try this primer with SPF. When I tried it briefly at Sephora I loved the texture of it.
- PLAY Lotion: I’m thinking I’ll start off most days slathering on this lotion and then use the below mist once I’m out and about.
- PLAY Body Mist: I always love the ease of applying a spray sunscreen, especially once you’re already at the beach and all sandy. This spray sunscreen is also a non-aerosol which I’ve never seen before from similar products.
LARQ Movement – Self-Cleaning Water Bottle
This waterbottle cleans itself. SAY WHAT.
I’m a constant plastic waterbottle user. I KNOW, I KNOW. It’s a shitty thing to do but I’ve yet to find a reusable waterbottle I LOVE. I keep a water bottle on me at all times so I have been on the hunt for one that’s small enough to squeeze in my purse but also easy to clean for everyday use. Something about constantly having to handwash a water bottle with soapy water and a grimy sponge just doesn’t seem like a great option to me. The water always tastes a little bit “off” to me.
I’ve been thinking about getting a LARQ waterbottle since I first heard about them but have been on the fence. It’s a bit clunky and heavy which doesn’t work for me if I want to carry it around in my purse all day.
LARQ now has a newer model, The LARQ Movement which is supposed to be lighter weight than the OG model. Mine is on its way and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that its lightweight enough to keep in my purse all day long. It could be a total gamechanger if so!
Romper from American Eagle
This romper will be great to wear both over a bathing suit but also when we head into town.
Bathing Suits from Aerie
I wrote about all the new suits I got from Aerie in this blog post. I’m really excited to debut them in Nicaragua. You can’t beat the price and all the ones I found have enough chest coverage that if I end up surfing or paddleboarding I won’t be totally worried about flashing someone 😂
Lululemon Biker Shorts
Apparently it’s gonna be 90 degrees where I’m heading next week. Woah. Since it is a yoga and fitness retreat I’ll be doing plenty of working out. I have a feeling these “biker shorts” from Lululemon are going to be my BFFs in the heat. It’s the same cut as the align pant but in short form!
Travel Yoga Mat
The Manduka travel mat isn’t my favorite for everyday practice, but when you’re traveling it works. Lightweight and fits in your suitcase!
Two-Piece Outfit
How cute is this two-piece outfit from Lulus? I think it will be perfect for nights out if we head into town.
My favorite turquoise dress
I. Love. This. Dress. Every time I wore it over the summer I got a ton of compliments. It’s not me, it’s definitely this dress!
“Water Friendly” White Birkenstocks
These water-friendly Birkenstocks have become my go-to for the beach and pool. I still prefer a “classic” Birkenstock for all-day wear — they’re WAY more comfortable — but for the sand and water, these shoes are perfection.
BOOKS
Obviously I’m bringing ALL the books. I’m still deciding what books to bring for sure — I’m thinking all super-light rom-coms for the beach. I’ve been eying the new book Tweet Cute which sounds light and fun.
