How is everyone holding up?
Yesterday I dropped a bunch of book recs, so today I wanted to drop some TV show recs. Here are 8 truly fabulous shows to binge-watch right now that will bring you joy and tons of laughter. Promise 🙂
Shows to Binge-Watch RIGHT NOW
Younger
1 Sentence Synopsis: Liza, a 40-year-old, recently divorced mom living in New Jersey pretends to be 26 to get a job as an assistant at a major publishing house.
Why you NEED to binge-watch: There is something SO addicting about this show. The episodes are only 22 minutes long and often times end on a cliffhanger which means you want to keep watching until you’re all caught up. You’ll get totally obsessed with each and every one of the characters, trust me.
I started watching this show already knowing I’d love it — it’s created by Darren Starr who also created Sex and the City. It stars Sutton Foster, one of my favorite Broadway performers, AND Hilary Duff, my idol from childhood. AND it takes place in NYC (and actually films here — I’ve seen them in my ‘hood.) Wins all around to me.

The Bold Type
1 Sentence Synopsis: Three BFFs navigating all the ups and downs of their mid-20’s while working together at a women’s magazine.
Why you NEED to binge-watch: After I got all caught up on Younger I felt like I had a major hole in my life I needed to fill. The Bold Type did just that. It’s very “millennial” and relatable while still being aspirational. It makes me wish I worked at some fancy magazine!

Community
1 Sentence Synopsis: An unlikely crew of quirky personalities becomes BFFs while attending the same community college together.
Why you NEED to binge-watch: This show is from the creator of Rick and Morty, which I also love but can be a bit too weird for me at times.
This show starts off a bit so-so but then eventually becomes one of the funniest, smartest, most brilliant shows I’ve ever watched. I could go on and on about why this show might be one of the greatest comedies ever. Heads up — the final seasons aren’t nearly as strong. But when it’s good, it’s SO freaking good.

Rupaul’s Drag Race
1 Sentence Synopsis: Project Runway meets America’s Next Top Model… but with drag queens.
Why you NEED to binge-watch: I am OBSESSED with Rupaul’s Drag Race and oh so many of the queens that have been on this show. If you grew up loving America’s Next Top Model like me, you need to give this show a shot. There’s still that same juicy reality TV drama, but also so much incredible talent from these queens.
If you’re just getting started with Drag Race I recommend starting with Season 3 or later. The first two seasons are a bit clunky, but by Season 5 the show really hits its stride.
Where to stream: you can watch earlier season on Hulu and Amazon. You can also purchase later seasons on iTunes

Atlanta
1 Sentence Synopsis: Donald Glover’s brilliant show about a hip-hop artist trying to make it big in Atlanta.
Why you NEED to binge-watch: This show is subtle but so smart. There’s a lot of really interesting commentary on race, socio-economic issues, and fame but it’s also incredibly funny. The episodes range from being just plain fun and funny to one of the creepiest episodes of television ever, Teddy Perkins.
If you’re on the fence I HIGHLY recommend watching the episode “B.A.N.” to get a taste of what this show is all about. It’s a great stand-alone episode where you don’t need to know a ton of backstory about the characters.

Fleabag
1 Sentence Synopsis: Sarcastic and witty cafe owner navigates life and coming to terms with a major loss in her life.
Why you NEED to binge-watch: It’s hard to describe Fleabag as a show. It’s funny, it’s crude, it loves to break the 4th wall and it can make you feel really uncomfortable at times. I love a comedy series that’s also really smart and intentional, and Fleabag definitely hits those marks.
I still need to finish the second season but every episode I’ve watched so far is excellent.

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel
1 Sentence Synopsis: Housewife in the 1950s accidentally becomes a comedian when she finds out her husband has been cheating on her.
Why you NEED to binge-watch: The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is the comedy series we all need right now. It’s pure escapism with the lavish outfits from the 1950s. It’s hilarious and smart. And the conversations are a mile a minute so you really need to pay attention and stop scrolling on Instagram to watch every moment.

Arrested Development
1 Sentence Synopsis: Michael Bluth tries to keep family drama to a minimum when his father gets sent to jail for mismanaging the family’s real estate business.
Why you NEED to binge-watch: The joy of Arrested Development is that the show was made for binge-watching, but before binge-watching was an official thing. The humor on the show builds upon previous episodes with the same jokes constantly coming up and being reused in surprising ways.
It’s not a show for everyone, I rewatched it with Jeremy a few years ago and was SO worried he wouldn’t get into it. But if you let yourself dive in head first, I hope you fall in love with the series as I did years ago. I’m still constantly quoting jokes from the series.
I haven’t watched all of the newer seasons so I can’t vouch for them — but the original 3 seasons are excellent.
