I am so excited to finally be able to share this news: I’M MOVING!!!!!!
There is SO much I want to share with you about the new apartment!
For starters, the apartment is in Manhattan, literally a block away from where I currently live. I’m sure for many, this move sounds like no big deal, but having lived in my same apartment for over 10 years now (since I was 20!) this change feels HUGE.
Side Note: I want to acknowledge my extreme privilege that I am able to make this move during these complicated times. I do not at all take that for granted.
Why the Move:
I absolutely love my current apartment. It’s served me very well over the last 10 years. But for a while now I’ve been wanting an apartment with more space. A place I can grow into for years to come. I’ve seen a ton of great apartments over the years but none had all of the major things I was looking for:
- WASHER / DRYER: Working in the fitness industry means I produce a lot of sweaty clothes.
- SPACE: As I said earlier, I wanted to move somewhere with more space than I currently have in my converted studio apartment. Obviously things have changed in my personal life since I started apartment hunting, but my hope is that someday I can live there with a significant other of sorts (know any nice Jewish guys in NYC? I’m kidding…)
- CLOSET SPACE: I have a lot of clothes
- IN GOOD CONDITION: Needs minimal renovations and work besides cosmetic things.
- LOCATION: I love love love where I currently live. My original hope was to stay in the same building if the right unit became available. I wanted to stay as close to my current building as possible.
- And of course: an apartment within my budget.
As they say, good things come to those who wait. After a long search, I found the right place in my neighborhood that offers all of the above. The timing is wild — moving during a pandemic — but also oddly perfect. I am very ready for a change in scenery after spending all my time at home these past few months.
I am also very ready for a “fresh start” after everything that’s happened this past year.
I’ll be sharing lots of apartment content over these upcoming weeks. Things like design inspo (OMG I AM SO EXCITED TO HAVE A NEW APARTMENT TO DESIGN!) and I’ll let you know how the space is coming together. For now, I’ll leave you with a mini-tour of the apartment. Think of it as the “before” pictures before I get to work making the apartment feel like “me”.
Mini Apartment Tour:
You walk right into the gorgeous kitchen. I love the white tiles and how BIG and open it is. I keep joking to my parents that I’m going to have to learn how to cook because the kitchen is too pretty to go to waste.
Past the kitchen is the open living room/dining room area. After eating dinner on my couch for the past 10 years I’m looking forward to having space for a legit dining room set up. The room is big and offers a lot of possibilities as far as set-up goes.
Also, can we talk about the incredible light? I went to the apartment yesterday to take these pictures and walk around alone for the first time in it. The gorgeous light made me SO happy.
There a lot of things I want to change in this current setup: The exposed brick is actually fake. A bit of a weird choice from the previous people. I’m deciding if I’m going to keep the brick look, paint it or remove it altogether. I’m also not crazy about the built-in bench, it kind of reminds of a church or synagogue pew. The lighting fixture also isn’t my vibe at all so planning to switch that out too!
To the right when you walk in is one of the bathrooms and the office/guest room.
The room isn’t huge but should have enough space for a desk and then a sofa or futon type of thing that converts into a bed. My desk is currently set up in my bedroom. It was totally fine in college but now I’m always really embarrassed to take Zoom calls with my messy bed in the background. Having an official office space will be nice!
And then there’s the main bedroom on the other side of the apartment.
I love love love the built-in bookshelves, perfect for a gal like me who owns a TON of books. I’m debating whether or not to do rainbow bookshelves. I love the look but I prefer my books to be alphabetized.
There’s also a lovely bathroom attached to the main bedroom. I’ve seen some weird and ugly bathrooms over the years (you’d be surprised!) and was delighted when I saw this apartment and the stunning bathroom.
That’s all for now! It will be a few weeks before I officially move in as I decorate the space and get everything ready to go. I’ll keep you updated on things and will be sharing some design inspiration as I get going! For now, I’m just SO excited about this new home!

So I am obsessed with that space! I also just love looking at apartments/decor styles for funsies. These were my thoughts while reading:
1. Coming from a girl who does not have interest in NYC living at all, that is a good sized space! Not to mention all the natural light. If I can avoid turning on lights during daytime hours because natural light floods in, I am the happiest human. 2. Having your desk out of your bedroom will do wonders for your sleep hygiene (says the girl who always has a desk in her bedroom since childhood, if there’s even a desk. When my roommate went to her job instead of remote teaching, I’d often work at the kitchen table just so there was a separation of my sleep and work spaces). 3. The fact that the exposed brick is fake is the biggest bummer. But agreed, get rid of that mounted bench. 4. Is the alcove in the built-in shelving for bed placement? And 5. I know a rabbi (he’s married) at Park Avenue Synagogue who mostly oversees the young adults. Aka social events/match making … just say the word 😇

I’ve secretly loved apartment hunting, it’s like HGTV IRL 😂
1. I’m so excited about the size and LIGHT! It’s crazy how dark some apartments are in NYC.
2. AMEN to sleep hygiene. Granted I need to work on scrolling in bed, but I’m excited to have separate work and living space.
3. Right? The brick was an interesting choice. But I don’t hate it as much as I thought. The bench however… very odd.
4. Yeah, shelving is built in. I like the storage but it does limit where I can put the bed.
5. HOOK A GIRL UP 😂😂😂😂

It looks so amazing and bright!! And also washer and dryer, best life upgrade🙌Not sure if this would but I feel like painting the brick white could look really cool! Excited to see what you do with the space.

Definitely thinking of painting the bricks white to lighten up the space (or a cute accent color). I’m SO excited to have fun designing the space!

I love the exposed brick!!
