Hiiii! Happy Friday! Does anyone have any fun (safe) plans for the weekend? For me, I’m just hoping to sleep in and soak up this gorgeous weather while we still can in NYC.
Today’s favorites are super fun, lots of great food shares, and a few fashion favorites, too.
this fabulous black + white midi dress from Madewell
I wore this dress last weekend for brunch and then evening drinks with some friends. I am absolutely obsessed with it. As a short person I’ve always been iffy on midi dresses — oftentimes they swallow me up — but right now I’m digging the nightgown dress vibe. It’s comfy and with a leather jacket and cute boots (below), I felt put together! A win-win.
the white Day Boot from Everlane
I bought these boots last year when Everlane had a fabulous flash sale. At first, I was worried I’d regret buying a white pair of boots for NYC life. But I’m SO happy I got them. I swear they make any outfit — a dress, a skirt or jeans — look automatically chic.
Last weekend I wore them with the above dress. I NEVER wear heeled shoes and most shoes hurt my feet (damn you, bunions) but I was pleasantly surprised that my feet felt good for most of the day. After 6 miles of walking in the boots… a little less so 😂 but not too shabby for heeled boots! I’m typically a size 7.5 and sized up to the 8.
brunch at Jajaja
I always love eating at the vegan Mexican restaurant Jajaja. I met a friend there for brunch over the weekend and we loved our outdoor dining experience. The nachos are THE BEST and I also love the breaky burrito and the quesadilla. Yum!
dinner at Aria on Bedford
A few weekends ago I was with 2 friends trying to find a place to eat on a Saturday night in the West Village. The neighborhood was HOPPING with people eating outside. Most places had 90+ minute waits. We stumbled upon Aria’s West Village location on Bedford and were lucky that they had a table open for us.
We all ordered pasta dishes and RAVED about our meal. I got a pasta special that evening — squid ink pasta with a tomato sauce and various fishes. It was SO SO SO good. I hope they have it all the time because I want to eat it again ASAP.
Van Leeuwen’s fall vegan ice cream flavors
Bring on the fall flavors! One of my favorite ice cream places, Van Leeuwen, currently has a few special-for-fall vegan ice cream flavors. I’ve now tried both the vegan Pumpkin Cinnamon Roll and Vegan Bourbon Apple Crisp. Both are delicious!
taking an outdoor kettlebell class with The Fhitting Room
I got my butt thoroughly kicked in a kettlebell class with The Fhitting Room on the rooftop at Showfields. I can’t think of the last time I used a kettlebell. Maybe over a year ago!?
The class is a few 4-minute circuits (I honestly lost track of how many circuits we did because I was struggling 😂) with exercises that are a mixture of bodyweight exercises and kettlebell moves. I absolutely loved the class and it was SO fun to workout with people IRL.
If you go make sure to bring a pair of Bluetooth headphones so you can listen to the music. And if you’re curious about other outdoor workout options in NYC right now, check out this blog post.
trapeze!
If you’ve been following the blog for a while you know that flying trapeze is one of my favorite things, ever. The outdoor Trapeze School New York location has been open for a few weeks now, but I’ve held off on flying both for financial and safety reasons. I decided to treat myself to a class before the season ends and I was SO SO SO happy to be back.
Turns out it’s just like riding a bike! Muscle memory is this crazy crazy thing and it all came back to me easily. I posted some flying videos on Instagram if you’re curious about what the heck it looks like.
If you’ve ever wanted to try flying trapeze I cannot recommend Trapeze School New York enough. They are the best.
