I posted this message to Instagram earlier today. But I think it’s worth sharing here too.
Dear Fitness Industry,
To the fitness instructors, yoga teachers, fitness influencers, social media managers for gyms/studios and anyone talking about fitness this week:
With one week to go to Thanksgiving, can we all agree to cut the “earn your stuffing” bullshit this year? For so many of us this thanksgiving is going to look different. Maybe it’s only celebrating with a tiny group. Maybe it’s spending the holiday alone.
What if our workouts leading up to thanksgiving weren’t centered around guilt and shame?
What if instead we focused on COMMUNITY during a time that is so so isolating for some of us?
What if we focused on GRATITUDE and how fucking amazing our bodies are? How are bodies continue to carry us through a pandemic and the unimaginable stress that we have been through this year.
I beg of you, if you are a fitness professional or a fitness influencer please please please choose your words wisely this week.
It’s so easy to spout out bullshit about burning calories and earning your food. But what if we worked harder to be better and uplifted our students rather than putting them down?
Love, Kayla.
