Happy Friday. Hope you all had a good week. Today I wanted to try something new (or maybe I’ve done it before… I can’t remember!) Sharing a high and low from the week.
High: My new mattress arrived! YAY!!!!!! I mentioned this a bit on Instagram but yeesh, I found mattress shopping to be a bit stressful. SO many to choose from and I felt SO awkward lying on various beds in showrooms throughout Manhattan.
I ended up choosing the Saatva classic mattress in luxury firm. It’s got great reviews and I loved it when I tried it out in the showroom. Will report back after I’ve slept on it for a bit! (And if you’re in search of a mattress, use this link to get $100 off)
Low: I’ve just been feeling the general pandemic BLAHS this week and have been struggling on the motivation front.
And now, some favorites! The sweatshirt I’ve been loving, my favorite brunch spot, a fun movie, a great vacuum, and more:
this Harry Styles sweatshirt
It’s glittery. It’s Harry Styles. And it’s my favorite phrase. What’s not to love?
Palm Springs on Hulu
I watched the movie Palm Springs over the weekend on Hulu and it’s SUCH a wild ride. It’s a bit of Ground Hogs Day as it’s a time-loop mixed with a Judd Apatow vibe. I love both Andy Samberg and Cristin Milioti as actors and it was kind of fun to see Cristin Milioti play more of a hot mess character than she usually does. It’s nothing earth-shattering, but a fun watch.
this vacuum
You know you’re 30 when you’re VERY excited about a vacuum. For the last 10 years, I’ve used a vacuum that’s pretty much a dustbuster with a stick attached to it. It’s not great.
I knew for the new apartment I wanted a legit vacuum, especially with all the rugs. After some research (AKA polling all my friends) I decided on the cordless Dyson Cyclone V10. It’s not a cheap vacuum and mine was a holiday/housewarming gift from my parents, but WOW is it a game-changer.
Honestly, I want to play around with it a bit more before I give a full review, but so far I LOVE it. It’s lightweight and has done WONDERS so far on my new rugs that are shedding like crazy. I’ve found it super easy to use and it makes me actually want to vacuum which is a shocking thing. I can’t believe I’ve been without a legit vacuum for so long.
brunch outside at La Palapa in the East Village
Every weekend I go to La Palapa at some point for brunch. Usually, it’s takeout (or delivery if I’m feeling really lazy) but over the weekend it was nice enough to meet up with a friend for outdoor dining. I love their back patio so much. It’s like a little peaceful oasis in the middle of the city.
I usually get the same thing every weekend — huevos rancheros verdes with no dairy. The fish tacos are also FABULOUS if that’s more your jam.
all things In the Heights movie
I AM SO EXCITED FOR THE IN THE HEIGHTS MOVIE. Yes, I’m so excited it requires me to type in all caps.
In 2007 my parents and I first saw Lin-Manuel Miranda’s musical In the Heights off-broadway. We were BLOWN away and could not stop talking about how smart and inventive this show was. We kept our fingers crossed it would transfer to Broadway and sure enough it did. Of course, now it seems like everyone is familiar with Lin-Manuel Miranda thanks to Hamilton. While I LOVE Hamilton, In the Heights holds a special place in my heart. In college I was constantly entering the daily lottery for cheap front row tickets — I couldn’t get enough of it!
All these years later I’m SO excited for this movie. I’m iffy about movie musical adaptations sometimes, but so far the trailers are looking phenomenal. I also loved this article which gave a bit of insight into the process of turning this musical into a movie. June can’t get here fast enough!

Now that the weather is getting warmer (or at least kind of warmer…) I’m ready for ALL the cute dresses for summer. Here are a few that I ordered to try on:
- In general, I’m not a red gal, but the back detail on this dress looks too cute to not try.
- I’m always on the hunt for simple dresses that can work as both a cover-up but also an easy dress on hot days like this one.
- the colors on this tie-dye dress look dreamy
- also tie-dye, this maxi dress looks like you could dress it up or down.
- I’m the most excited about this dress as I think it will be a good fit for my shape
- I don’t own anything off-the-shoulder but this dress looks like it could be great for hot days.
- I’m a sucker for anything in green (usually what I gravitate towards with my hair + freckles) and this romper caught my eye.
