I’ve been on the hunt for new workout tanks. My requirements? It’s comfy to wear all day. Functional for working out. And has a built-in bra because that means less laundry… and who wants to wear a restricting sports bra all day 😂.
Lululemon has always been my go-to for all things workout clothes… but I’ve been a bit disappointed by their selection of workout tops lately! The Power-Y is a longtime favorite of mine, but it seems they’ve just about been phased out. I’m SO mad that I sold a bunch of them when I started teaching hot yoga and wearing them less — damn you past Kayla!
I recently stumbled upon this racerback workout top from Amazon and I’m OBSESSED. I’ve been wearing it for a few months now and it’s always the first tank I want to grab in my drawer when I’m getting ready. It’s become a true favorite of mine — and I now own it in multiple colors 🙈
What I Love About It:
Even though it’s a crop top, it’s not too cropped. I don’t hate cropped tops. But sometimes I just want my belly button covered… is that too much to ask? Certain crop tops hit me in an unflattering way for my body proportions. Ugh, I miss being able to find full-length workout tops with a shelf bra!
I find this tank to be a happy medium, it’s cropped but still long enough that it covers my belly button with high-waisted bottoms.
It’s comfy. Pandemic or not, I wear workout clothes all day every day. Most days I’m moving my body both in the morning and again at night either doing my own workout or teaching. I want a tank that’s comfy enough to wear all day under a sweatshirt while I’m at my desk and it doesn’t feel like it’s squeezing the life out of me in the process. This tank fits the bill and I’m literally wearing it as I type up this blog post today.
For actual workouts, I’ve found it to be super comfy too. The racerback design is great for yoga as I don’t feel restricted in my range of movement. I also don’t have to adjust my tank at all during workouts which can be a pain in the ass while teaching.
It’s flatterings. This racerback tank fits my body in all the right ways. I like that it’s tapered around my ribs but not too tight around my armpit or back.
It’s versatile. For me it’s become a great all-in-one tank. I can wear it for pretty much every kind of exercise I do these days — barre, taking or teaching yoga, spin, and I also loved wearing it hiking when I was in LA. Gotta love a tank that’s easy to pack for travel because I know it can keep up with whatever workout I end up doing while I’m away.
It can maybe double as a fashion tank. Hear me out on this one… I think the white version of the tank makes a surprisingly cute crop top to pair with high-waisted skirts.
It’s cheap but not cheap. I’m admittedly a total snob when it comes to buying quality clothes, especially workout clothes because it’s all I wear these days. For being less than $25 dollars, it doesn’t feel cheap in a gross way. Will it last me 5+ years like my beloved Power-Y tank? Probably not. But so far it’s held up after quite a few washes.
My only complaint?
I wish it came in more colors. Pretty please, Amazon! Right now I have 2 of the black (can never have enough black workout clothes, right?), a white, and the black tie-dye.
But Kayla…
How does it compare to the Amazon Lululemon Align tank dupe? I genuinely love the Lululemon Align tank dupe from Amazon (full review and comparison here!). I still wear it all the time and especially love it for yoga and barre. The racerback tank is a bit better for high-impact workouts. It’s also bit less booblicious so I don’t have to be as worried about a wardrobe malfunction if I’m doing burpees, etc. and a tiny bit longer as a tank.
TLDR…
I freaking LOVE this racerback workout tank from Amazon. It’s perfect if you’re looking for something that’s comfy and decent quality… but don’t want to spend a ton of money.
