Hiii! Things have been a bit quieter on the blog lately. I’m back to teaching fitness and yoga classes in studio for the first time since March 2020!! It has been exciting and amazing to be back teaching in person, but also a bit of a whirlwind. I forgot how much energy it takes to teach IRL! I’ve been a sleepy Kayla to say the least.
But, I’m slowly getting used to my new schedule and hope to get back in the routine of blogging ASAP!
I’m super excited to pop in today and share some recent favorites which as always features a lot of tasty NYC eats. Let’s dive in!
the In the Heights movie
My favorite favorite thing that happened recently? The In the Heights movie came out last week🎉🎉🎉🎉 I can honestly say I’ve never been SO excited for a movie in my entire life. I think I saw the show 16 or 17 times on Broadway and I used to listen to the CD constantly. I was obsessed, to say the least.
A friend and I decided to see the movie in theaters. I’ll be honest, I probably wouldn’t have gone in person for any other movie. But In the Heights? I couldn’t not see it on the big screen.
While the movie isn’t perfect (and there has been a lot of discussion around the lack of representation of the Black Latinx community that lives in Washington Heights) as a movie adaptation of a musical, it’s incredible. It’s the joy-filled but also emotionally charged movie I didn’t realize I needed right now. Whether you feel comfortable seeing it IRL or from the comfort of your own home on HBOMax, go watch this movie!
a surprisingly comfy sports bra
I recently got this sports bra from Lululemon. It is surprisingly comfortable which is saying a lot for sports bra! I love that the bra has a built-in Marshmellow-y foam padding instead of the usual pain in the ass removable pads.
I’ve only worn it for yoga and barre so far so I can’t speak to how it holds up during high-impact workouts, but I’ve been loving it for teaching hot yoga and taking barre classes.
brunch at Seamore’s
I know I mentioned the sustainable seafood restaurant Seamore’s in my last favorites but I recently went there for brunch and WOW. I got the lobster benedict and a Bloody Mary. Both were excellent.
this cuuuuute dress for summer
I’ve been wearing this dress a ton (including in the pictures above!) It’s perfect for HOT summer days — it’s fitted on top so I don’t have to wear a bra with it (always a win!) but breezy on the bottom.
I bought the dress in a X-Small petite but it looks like the petite is all sold out. I heard from a friend though that’s 5’1″ that the regular sizing fit fine lengthwise too! Worth giving a shot even if you’re short too!
dinner from Spicy Moon
I cannot believe I hadn’t heard of Spicy Moon until this week. They are a vegan Szechuan restaurant with locations in both the East and West Village. I ordered from them via delivery and got the seitan BBQ steamed bun and Dan Dan Noodles. It was delicious and I can’t wait to check out either location IRL!
dinner from Willow
Willow is another new-to-me vegan spot! I got delivery from this Chelsea restaurant and wish I could’ve tried everything on the menu. I went with the truffle mac and cheese — pretty much my dream dish — and a coconut, beet, and blueberry smoothie. I’ll be ordering from them again soon for sure!
the podcast: Smartless
I’ve been listening to the podcast Smartless a ton lately. It’s hosted by Will Arnet, Jason Bateman, and Sean Hayes. Every week one of them surprises the other two with a special guest. Something about the three of them together is SO funny and I’ll pretty much listen to them chat to anyone. I’ve been having a lot of fun going back into the archives of old episodes — and have found myself laughing out loud while walking on the street at something ridiculous one of the guys said.
