I remember taking my first hot yoga class and being SO nervous. What do I wear? Do I eat before class? Will I pass out from the heat? AHHHH!?
While I know firsthand how intimidating taking a hot yoga class can be, I’m here to at least ease some anxiety in the fashion department. Overall my big piece of advice is to wear clothing that’s tight-fitting and sweat-wicking. This will keep you cooler throughout class. This probably goes without saying but I also recommend as little clothing as possible, especially if you’re taking a hot class in the summer.
Here are my top picks for what to wear to hot yoga.
Sports bra:
Most of the time when I’m taking a hot yoga class (or even teaching!) I’m wearing just a sports bra on top. I didn’t always feel comfortable like that but then honestly said “Screw it, it’s too hot!!!”
My favorite sports bra right now for hot yoga is the Free to Be Serene Bra from Lululemon. It offers plenty of coverage for when you’re going upside down, but also allows for a ton of range of motion in your upper body thanks to the cute design on the back.
Biker Shorts:
Lately, I’ve been ALL about the biker short life. They’re perfect for hot yoga — I don’t feel like I’m on the verge of a wedgie all class but my legs can also breatheeeee.
My favorite biker shorts are these ones from Everlane. I’ve worn them to almost every class heated class I’ve taught since I’ve been back teaching in studio. Everlane also has a new similar short that’s shorter and looks super cute! I haven’t tried it yet though.
I will give a small warning about wearing shorts in hot yoga — your legs can get really slippery! Sometimes I’ll opt to wear sweat-wicking pants for this reason, but it depends on your personal comfort!
Racerback tank:
While I usually practice in just a sports bra, I also love and recommend Lululemon’s Cool Racerback tank for hot yoga classes.
It’s sweat-wicking, super lightweight, comes in a bunch of colors, and actually stays put when you’re moving around. You won’t have to adjust it during class.
Built-in bra top:
This crop top with a built-in bra has become an absolute favorite of mine — and it’s shockingly good quality for the price. If you’re looking for an all-in-one top that’s lightweight but will still give you decent coverage, it’s perfect.
Thin + Sweatwicking Leggings:
My favorite pants for hot yoga are the Fast and Free Tights from Lululemon. They’re super thin and lightweight and AMAZING at wicking sweat. They’re designed for running, but I really do love them for yoga because they stay in place.
I’ll also sometimes wear my beloved Lululemon Aligns for hot yoga from time to time. I know many of my coworkers prefer them but I find them to be meh at wicking sweat in super sweaty classes. I sweat A LOT in heated classes, so could be my personal comfort.
