I realize I haven’t shared a favorite things post since SEPTEMBER. Yikes. Because of that, this one is going to be a bit extra chock full with things I’ve been loving, watching, eating, wearing, and more.
NYC Food Favorites:
Brooklyn Bagel: Most weekends my dad will trek to Russ and Daughter’s to pick up lox (thanks dad!) for a breakfast treat, but if I’m on my own, I’ve been loving getting a plain bagel, tofu cream cheese, and lox on Saturday mornings from Brooklyn Bagel nearby.
Barbounia: A friend and I went to Barbounia for brunch recently. It doesn’t sound like much, but the heirloom cauliflower appetizer is SO good.
Shun Lee: A few friends and I went to the Chinese restaurant Shun Lee before seeing a show at Lincoln Center. We shared a bunch of stuff and everything was amazing. I recommend the chicken with three nuts and shrimp dumplings.
Planta Queen: Everything I tried at this popular vegan restaurant was SO good. My friend and I split the spicy “tuna” roll, cauliflower tots, truffle udon noodles, crispy gyoza, and a brownie sundae to top it all off. Each dish was great — and it was fun to share a bunch with a friend.
Fashion Favorites:
I wore this super comfy black sweater with jeans last night to meet up with a friend for drinks. It’s definitely going to be a staple in my wardrobe this winter.
I’m obsessed with this cozy green sweater — it makes yoga pants feel a bit more dressed up.
This knit blazer in light pink has become a quick favorite. It feels a bit more dressed up than a cardigan, but is comfy like a sweater.
I gave into Instagram ads and bought a “brami” — the bra + cami top from Klassy Network. I was pretty skeptical, but I honestly really love it. My favorite of the ones I tried on is definitely this high neck full length top. I have it in black, but I’ve been thinking about getting the green too.
My beloved (and comfy!) nap dress comes in VELVET now. I need to find somewhere fancy to wear it ASAP 😂
TV Favorites:
On the TV front, I’m been rewatching all of Sex and the City in preparation for And Just Like That on HBO Max. The latest trailer got me SO excited!
I’ve watched SATC all the way through more times than I can count, but I will say it’s been interesting watching now that I’m closer in age to the main characters. In season one Charlotte is 32 years old — only one year older than me!
I’ve also been watching lots of Drag Race, of course. Drag Race UK Season 3 just wrapped up and I’m starting to get really into Drag Race Canada Season 2 (I’m rooting for Pythia! Her creativity actually blows my mind.)
Theater Favorites:
Now that Broadway is back, I’ve been seeing lots of shows. I missed live theater so so so much!
Hamilton: I chatted about this before, but I was able to snag tickets to see Hamilton’s reopening. The show is just as good as ever and still lives up to the hype in my opinion.
Six: Six tells the story of the six wives of Henry the VIII. I had a blast the night I went and was blown away by how talented this whole cast is. This musical is 80 minutes of fun and talent.
Moulin Rouge: I was so excited to finally see Moulin Rouge — who didn’t LOVE the Baz film? I will say it’s not my favorite thing I’ve seen recently, but the visuals are stunning and it’s a lot of fun. If you’re a fan of the movie, it’s definitely worth going to.
Assassins: You wouldn’t think a show about all of the assassins would be good, but wow is the production of Assassins currently at Classic Theater Company SO good. The cast is perfection from top to bottom.
Caroline or Change: Set in the 1960s in the south, this show focuses on an upper-class Jewish family and a Black woman that works as their maid. I saw the original production of Caroline or Change back in high school. This production is so well done, each cast member giving a star performance in this powerful show.
Waitress: I love love love Waitress and had already seen it a number of times. This show follows diner Waitress and incredible baker Jenna trying to quite literally bake her way out of her awful marriage. After seeing the show again, I couldn’t help but think that this is the show we need right now. It’s uplifting, gives you the feels, and you leave with so much hope.
Flying Over Sunset: The premise of this show is super interesting — a group of famous people, including Cary Grant, do LSD together one day in LA. The execution was meh in my opinion. I’m still listing it here as it’s a show I saw, but not necessarily a favorite.
American Utopia: I’m so happy I got to see David Byrne’s American Utopia. It’s part concert, part theatrical experience.
And not theater but I couldn’t end this blog post without mentioning my favorite favorite thing recently: getting to see Harry Styles LIVE!!!!!
If you’ve been following along you know that I accidentally became a mega Harry Styles fan after reading the book The Idea of You in early 2020. I was supposed to see his shows in 2020 but you know what happened there…
WOW does the guy put on a good live show. His concerts are just 90 minutes of joy and dancing in a way I’ve never seen before. I’m so glad I got to see him a few times on this tour, and am keeping my fingers crossed he will be (safely) out on the road again sooner than later.
