I hope your 2022 is off to a good start. It’s been a COLD week in NYC — I’m writing this Thursday night but there might be lots of snow on the ground by the time this post goes live. I feel like I’ve been in full introvert because of the weather plus omicron. I’ve been spending most of my downtime on the couch either reading or watching TV. Not the worst thing!
Wherever you are I hope you’re staying warm, cozy, and safe this weekend 💗
Favorite Things ⤵️
My new plant!!!!
I’m officially a (very nervous!) plant mama! After doing some research on large, low-fuss plants, I decided to get a Bamboo Palm from Bloomscape for my living room.
So far I am proud to say it’s still alive… and now I want more plants 😂
Organizing my bookshelves
I had a few days off from teaching last week and spent a solid afternoon reorganizing my bookshelves. I’m definitely not a professional when it comes to bookshelf styling, but I gotta say I’m pretty proud of my work! Seeing my bookshelves looking all cute has brought me a lot of joy this past week.
Making my 2022 vision board
I love making vision boards for the new year. In the past, I’ve hosted vision board of events, and last year I ended up meeting up with a friend on Zoom to make ours together for the year.
This year I ended up making one solo on New Years Day. I bought a bunch of fun magazines, put on some records, and spent the afternoon crafting my vision board for 2022. There’s something really soothing about doing some arts and crafts for a few years.
I’ve spoken about making vision boards a few times. My own method isn’t anything special — I just sift through magazines and cut out things that catch my eye and then paste them down.
These warm but also waterproof UGG boots.
Yes, I shamelessly wear UGG boots. They are a necessity when it gets cold in NYC but I’m still out and about walking everywhere.
I’ve been wearing the same UGG boots since HIGH SCHOOL. While I love them, I was definitely due for an upgrade. I decided to get the Classic Clear Mini boot to wear with yoga pants.
They are PERFECT for NYC winters — warm and cozy but also have a waterproof outside.
Another UGG favorite: These slippers.
I’ve also had the same UGG slippers since high school. My old pair were starting to get a bit worn down and I asked for a new pair for Chanukah.
I’ve been wearing my new slippers pretty much every second I’m in my apartment, including right now as I type this. I can speak from experience that these slippers LAST — I got my old ones in probably 2007!
This face moisturizer.
My skin gets so dry in the winter. My dermatologist recommended this face moisturizer to use during the winter. It’s thick without being too greasy and leaves my skin super soft.
Cozy winter candles.
I really like to burn candles at night when I’m reading on the couch. I’m especially a fan of anything that smells like a Christmas tree. It’s one of my favorite scents and always feels so cozy. This one from Thymes has been my favorite Christmas tree candle so far… I’ve now tried quite a few 😂
What I’m Watching – TV
Sex Lives of College Girls
I absolutely LOVED this show. It’s created by Mindy Kaling and follows four roommates during their freshman year of college at the fictional Essex College.
This show is absolutely hilarious but also really touching at times. I cannot wait for season two and honestly wish I had savored watching the first season a bit more.
GO WATCH IT if you haven’t.
Never Have I Ever, Season 2
Also by Mindy Kaling, I was super excited to start season two of Never Have I Ever. This show is all about Indian-American high school student Devi figuring out herself and her life after a traumatic experience.
I watched season one during the early pandemic days mostly while painting my nails at 2 AM. It took me a little while to get back in the groove with season two, but once I did I started to really love it again. Definitely worth a watch.
And Just Like That
Ahhh yes, the Sex and the City rewatch. I’ve been passionately watching the show week after week… even if it’s cringey at times. As a massive Sex and the City fan, I’m devoted to watching the show no matter what and have been enjoying discussing each episode with all of YOU on Instagram each week.
Is it must-watch television? No. Is it good to see Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte every week? Oh yes.
What I’m Watching – Movies
Tick… Tick… BOOM
I first saw the musical Tick.. Tick… Boom off-broadway as a 12-year-old. The show follows Jonathan Larson, the eventual creator of the musical Rent, and his own freak out leading up to turning 30.
This show has been a long-time favorite of mine… and was something I wrote about leading up to my own 30th birthday.
I was definitely nervous about how the show would adapt to a movie. I’ve now watched it twice, both in theaters and also on Netflix, and have to say WOW, it does a damn good job. Andrew Garfield gives the performance of a lifetime which I was NOT expecting. It’s a beautiful love story to theater and creating art.
A must-watch for theater lovers.
Spiderman No Way Home
No spoilers here, but I did want to say that I saw and LOVED Spiderman No Way Home. I’m not super knowledgeable about the Marvel Comic Universe, I think besides Spiderman-related movies I’ve only seen one or two other things. My friend had to catch me up on a few key details but otherwise, I was good going in with not a ton of Marvel knowledge.
West Side Story
I adore West Side Story both as a show and movie. The original movie is arguably my favorite movie musical. I was excited to see how Steven Spielberg would adapt this beloved classic. As expected, I thought he did a stunning job bringing the show to life in a new way on screen.
