The summer is all in bloom, the summer is ending soon…
Every August I find myself getting particularly emotional about the summer ending. Hence the dramatic quoting of the ultimate summer song of my youth: White Houses by Vanessa Carlton.
I love summer. The warmer weather in NYC. Getting to wear dresses every day with sandals. Spending time at the pool. Saying yes to all the fun, exciting things. It’s always been my favorite season, and probably always will be.
But I will say, I am looking forward to fall. Or at least trying to focus on the parts of fall I’m super excited about.
I am excited to:
- hunker down and get back to blogging — something that takes a backseat for me every summer.
- work on my blogging e-book that I’ve been teasing forever.
- pull back and hibernate after this more extroverted season of life.
- get back to my yoga practice — It’s been hard to find motivation to practice hot yoga during these toasty months
- not be sweating all the time. That’s a definite perk of fall 😂
It can be really, really hard though to get back in the swing of things after the craziness of summer. I know for me I always struggle to refocus my energy back on work after a summer of being more focused on play.
✨
Somethings I’ll be doing to get back on track this fall:
I’m going to take a step back and reevaluate where I’m focusing my energy. What is working? What’s not working? Fall is the perfect time to take a step back and reevaluate where your priorities are in life and in work. If somethings not working start to strategize how you can change it.
I am returning to my rituals that work. I can’t even tell you the last time I journaled. Or used my diffuser while I’m working at my desk. Spending more time at my desk come fall means coming back to the rituals that I know work for me and help me get things done. For me that is journalling to get some of my thoughts out and doing things like diffusing oils.
I am challenging myself to create a new routine. I have not been keeping up with my own yoga practice this summer. Hot yoga on a hot day isn’t my jam 😜 I’m excited to dive back into my love of yoga, which is something I should really be doing in all seasons as a yoga teacher.
I am setting some new goals. There’s something about fall that just gets you in the mood to set some goals — maybe it’s because for the first 22 years of my life fall meant new school year. Even if you’re not heading back to school it’s a good time to set some new goals. For me I want to get back to my usual blogging schedule of posting 2-3 times a week and practice yoga 2 times a week.
I am still focusing on fun. I think one of the reasons I love summer so much is because I focus on having FUN so much more than during any other seasons. The truth is, I am still allowed to have fun during all seasons. I can still be be spontaneous. Go on adventures on a whim. And I can give myself permission to take the whole afternoon off to just chill.
OUTFIT DETAILS:
DRESS // Farm Rio Print Dress // I’ve gotten SO many compliments on this dress. The print is cute and unlike anything else I own. Plus it’s super comfy.
SANDALS // Adilette Comfort Slide // I swear these shoes feel like you are walking on clouds. After a long day of teaching on my feet, they feel like heaven to put on.

It’s so strange to me that people identify so strongly with the seasons like this. I am Australian and where I live it’s basically summer all year, with a couple of weeks of glorious “winter” the middle of the year. I always get confused when people refer to fall, summer etc. rather than months of the year. I have to keep remembering when those (supposed) seasons are in the southern hemisphere, then flip them about to work out what time of year you are referring to. I lived in Canada for a while so I understand why the seasons are a big deal, I just can’t get used to referring to them instead of months.

Here in NYC it definitely makes a big difference — our summers are hot and humid, winter is cold and windy. The in-betweens are short-lived sadly
