Happy Friday 🙂 I’m SO hyped cuz I have not one but TWO consecutive days off in a row. SAY WHAT!? In the fitness industry that’s a unicorn weekend. My plan for today is to be a lazy human being basically 😂 and then to do the same thing again Saturday.
Today I gots some favorites for you! Lots of good stuff to share with you:
Brunch at Sunday in Brooklyn
A few Fridays ago my friend Nikki and I got brunch at Sunday in Brooklyn… which is in Williamsburg. Holy moly our meal was good. I ordered the Cheddar Scramble Eggs (I asked for it dairy-free which I realize makes no sense cuz cheddar…) with avocado + a mezcal Bloody Mary aptly named Sunday, Bloody Sunday.
For realz, I will forever be dreaming about this meal. Everything was PERFECTION down to the sourdough bread served with the eggs. I’m not a big drinker (like, at all) but I’ve been wanting another Bloody Mary from them ever since we went.
I didn’t ask too many questions about dietary stuff, but it seems like they are pretty accommodating when it comes to dairy-free / gluten-free. Most of the egg dishes can be made dairy-free! And even without cheddar, my eggs were fab 😍
Pro tip: Even on a Friday it can get kind of hectic around lunchtime. We waited maybe 20 minutes but luckily they will alert you via text when your table is ready so we walked around the area for a bit.
Reading: The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren
It took me a few weeks to get back into reading post-break-up. Most nights all I wanted to do was curl up and watch yet another episode of Sex and the City… even though I’ve seen every episode 8 times.
The book The Unhoneymooners totally got me hooked and I ended up loving this adorable rom-com novel by Christina Lauren (who are actually two people co-authoring their books!).
Unhoneymooners follows unlucky Olive as she performs a neverending list of maid-of-honor duties at her sister’s wedding. By some freak accident, the entire wedding comes down with violent food poisoning. As a gal with a vomit phobia, I didn’t love this part TBH. The only people spared are Olive and her arch-nemesis / the best-man Ethan. They end up going on the honeymoon to Hawaii together — because who can pass up an already paid trip to Hawaii?
While aspects of the book are predictable, I’m always enamored with how attached I get to lead characters in Christina Lauren novels. I think I overall liked My Favorite Half-Night Stand a little bit more (you can read my thoughts on it here). But I thoroughly enjoyed Unhoneymooners too. Def recommend!
Going to the library.
Ah, such a simple joy. But yet something I hadn’t done in forever.
I love buying new books, maybe a little too much. My happy place is wandering around The Strand or Barnes and Noble in Union Square. I’m trying to curb my book-buying habit and instead am taking out books from the library that I don’t necessarily need to own. The wait for certain popular books can be a bit crazy so I’ve been putting a ton of books that I eventually want to read on hold and patiently waiting for when a copy becomes available. Currently from the library, I’m reading Love and Other Words by Christina Lauren. I already took out City of Girls by Elizabeth Gilbert to read next!
I know my librarian mama reads the blog (hi, mom!) so I’m hopefully making her proud by actually utilizing my library card. Also… who remembers this song from Arthur?
Joining the Century Club at Bar Method Noho.
I love that Bar Method celebrates major milestones like taking your 100th class. Well, I hit my 100 class milestone at the Noho studio the other week — and also became the first person to join the century club at the new studio. I’m def making use of my free staff membership 😂
I said this on Instagram but I am so freaking grateful for this community… especially with everything that’s been going on in my life recently. No matter what else is going on, I know I’ll always leave class feeling better than when I walked in. I feel lucky to have found a fitness class that makes me feel like that (and that also doesn’t deplete me on days I teach 5 fitness classes). It’s my hope that everyone can find the fitness class or workout that leaves them feeling uplifted and better.
Listening to: this episode of FWSS
Speaking of fitness (oh wait, when am I not…) I’ve been thinking a lot about the episode “Her Fitness” on the podcast From Where She Sits. I teach with Christie at The Bar Method so knew before I even listened to the episode that it would be focused on self-care and fitness as an uplifting activity, not all the “omg burn those calories!” bullshit you can sometimes hear.
As we approach the holiday season it’s an extra important conversation and one that I feel passionately about. I can promise you you will not hear bullshit “earn your Thanksgiving meal” speak in my classes next week. If you do choose to workout over the holiday season, I hope it can be a place of gratitude and self-love for you. I know for me if I do end up working out on Thanksgiving it’s gonna be because girlfriend needs some me-time before being surrounded by 40 peeps at family dinner.
Theater: Scotland, PA
THIS! SHOW! Scotland, PA is SO fun. The way I’ve been describing it is it’s Macbeth. Set in the 1970s. And set in a fast-food restaurant. It doesn’t sound like it should work, but oh boy it does.
My BFF David was in town over the weekend and suggested we see this show after hearing good things. I went in not expecting much — I don’t love Shakespeare (I’m the worst theater major ever) and definitely don’t love the Scottish play.
By the end of the second song we both looked at each other and whispered: “This is excellent!”
It’s funny, it’s got some good tunes, it’s a bit creepy in a Little Shop of Horrors kind of way. I’m trying to convince my parents to see it so I have an excuse to go again. Definitely recommend. FYI it’s a limited run and closes December 8th.
Chiaro Nespresso pods
My Nespresso machine + milk frother are hands down the kitchen appliances I use the most. My go-to Nespresso flavor is classic Vanilla (I’m a basic bitch, what can I say…) but the Chiaro aka biscuit flavor might be my new favorite. It’s crafted in a way that you’re supposed to have it with milk (oat milk in my dairy-free case) and it’s insanely delicious.
I personally also love 1 teaspoon or so of this dairy-free powder creamer to my lattes for a little extra sweetness and creaminess.
these Sparkly yoga pants from Beyond Yoga 😍
I’m usually not a sparkly person when it comes to workout wear — I like my yoga pants boring and black — but I couldn’t resist these beauties when they arrived at the studio I teach at.
I wouldn’t recommend them for a high intensity or super sweaty workout. BUT they are totally fine for barre IMO… and I especially love wearing them to teach. They seem to run a bit small so I’d recommend trying on one size up from your usual size. Also, LOLZ that it hits the above model at her ankle, for this 5’2″ gal I’ve been wearing them pulled over my heel which I actually prefer for barre classes.
I’m on a podcast!
My friend Alex + her husband Corey invited me to come on their podcast Husband & Wife Talk to talk about all things break-ups and my decision to not have kids. Heavy stuff… but we also manage to laugh a lot and have fun too.
It was a bit scary to talk about everything so candidly but I also think it’s important to talk about the things that seem a bit taboo. Listen to the episode here.
