Happy Friday 🙂 Although let’s be real, days of the week all feel the same right now.
During my family’s virtual Passover seder someone asked me what I do all day since I’m not working and I’m alone in my apartment. The truthful answer? Not much.
I sleep in — I miss teaching but I do NOT miss waking up at 5AM. Most days I try to film a workout of some sort to share, either something for my own instagram or for Bar Method. I go for long walks (with a mask on and 6 feet away from everyone). Some days I write a blog post. I try to do a Bar Method workout out later in the day before dinner. I stay up late watching old episodes of Top Model and random videos of the band One Direction. Sometimes I read. And that’s about it.
I am definitely feeling a lot of “guilt” that I’m not using this time to be more productive. In theory, I could be using this time to clean my apartment, write more, play the piano, create more content for Instagram, etc. But none of those things have sounded appealing to me. Even though it feels like everyone on social media is bragging about how productive they are and all the cool things they’re doing with their time, I’m reminding myself that it’s okay to simply be focused on survival right now. And to me surviving right now looks like focusing on sleep and moving my body.

Switching gears. For today’s Friday Favorites I wanted to focus on things I’ve been loving during this time.
Favorite Things: Quarantine Edition
One Direction but especially Harry Styles
On Instagram a few days ago I proposed my idea of an “Isolation Obsession.” It’s a movie, TV show, book, artist, band, etc. that you typically wouldn’t like but because of the current circumstances, you are oddly into it.
Case and point for me: Before quarantine, I knew next to nothing about the boy band One Direction. When they got popular in 2012 I was already a bit too old for the fandom, although I did know some of their hits thanks to working at a day camp that summer.
I am now embarrassingly knowledgeable and can rattle off a fair amount of trivia about the band. I totally blame the book The Idea of You, which I gushed about last week. The book features a sort of fictional version of One Direction member Harry Styles. After reading the book I experienced the worst book hangover ever and apparently becoming obsessed with 1D and Harry Styles has been the cure for my book hangover.
There is SO much content on both 1D and Harry Styles. I’ve spent literal hours watching YouTube fan videos. Maybe I shouldn’t admit this publically 😂
I already bought tickets to see Harry in concert (hopefully the summer tour dates won’t be canceled due to COVID-19) and rumor has it the boys might reunite in 2020. I know I’ve only been a fan for 2 weeks but I would be VERY excited if so…
America’s Next Top Model on Hulu
Since the start of the quarantine I’ve been watching Top Model on Hulu as my “background show” when I’m eating or relaxing on my couch. It’s mindless but I also get totally sucked into the drama of every season. I had never seen some of the later seasons so it’s been fun to watch the old episodes and have no clue what’s going to happen.
Cutwater Spirits Margarita
I’m not a big drinker but do enjoy the occasional margarita. I highly recommend Cuterwater Spirits’ canned margarita if you’re lazy like me and don’t want to make the drink yourself. Pour it into a salted rim glass and it’s pretty good for a canned drink.
Zoom Happy Hours, Seders and Workouts.
Zoom has been the real MVP of quarantine. People from my Nicaragua trip last month have been doing weekly happy hours, I got to spend Passover with over 20 of my family members on Zoom, and I’m also really enjoying Bar Method’s Zoom workouts. It keeps me accountable!
Beauty Counter Citrus Mimosa Body Wash
Let me preface by saying I’m not a Beauty Counter rep nor am I interested in becoming one. I’ve been on the hunt for a new body wash that doesn’t irritiate my super sensitive skin. I recently tried Glossier’s body oil wash which I wanted to love, but it left my skin SUPER irritated.
I had seen a few people recommend Beauty Counter’s Citrus Mimosa Body Wash. It’s creamy and a little goes a long way. It doesn’t take much to piss off my skin — on a good day my chest and arms get red and blotchy for no reason — but so far I haven’t had an major issues with this stuff. I’d call that a win.
Vital C Hydrating Enzyme Mask
Before quarantine I got a facial at HeyDay. I wanted some recommendations on how to up my skincare routine. My skin therapist recommended I use this hydrating, exfoliating mask a few days a week to help with my dull, dry skin. The mask legit smells like orange juice (in a good way!) and leaves my skin feeling SO soft.

Seriously? A Fuck your Fears mug? NOW? Now is NOT the moment for that kind of inspirational BS.
Been a reader a long time, but come on Kayla.

PS. it’s totally ok to not be productive right now. It’s a pandemic. Let that go.

I’m sorry, definitely didn’t mean it as some BS inspirational quote. It’s honestly one of the only photos I’ve taken in the last few weeks that hasn’t been workout-related or used for a blog post already.
