My bedroom in my old apartment is… a lot. For starters, it’s BRIGHT turquoise. It’s my home office and where I’m currently writing this blog post. It’s where I wrote oh so many papers in college and grad school. And of course, it’s where I sleep.
But now, I’m looking forward to having a separate home office in my new apartment. With that in mind, I want to focus on making my new place, and the bedroom in specific which is more of a chill “oasis” than it is in my old apartment.

What The Bedroom Currently Looks Like:
There are two built-in bookshelves that go on either side of where the bed will go.
What I’m Gravitating Towards:
Pops of Pink:
I never thought of myself as a super girly girl, but somehow my home decor style calls for a whole lot of pink! I don’t want it to be too girly (hey, a future boyfriend might eventually move into this apartment) but this room will definitely have a fair amount of light pink accents.
Rainbow Bookshelves:
I am SO excited to have two huge bookshelves. Perfect for this booklover! As of right now the plan is to organize the books by color as a rainbow bookshelf. I’m honestly a bit torn about it though — I love how it looks. But I personally usually organize books by the author’s last name. Looking for them by spine color might take some getting used to.
Something “cool” on the wall behind the bed:
The wall behind the bed is a perfect opportunity for something “cool” and different. It’s going to be either an accent wall or a cool mural painting.
Changing out the lights:
There are lights framing either side of the bed. I’m happy they exist, but the current light isn’t my vibe. I’ll be replacing them with something a bit more modern and my style.
Replace knob on cabinet:
I’m not sure what the storage under the bookshelves is going to be used for. Probably boxes of old Playbills and my textbooks from undergrad and grad school that I can’t part with. I’m going to swap out the knob on the cabinets to something gold and cute.
A Selfie Area:
Okay, this one is kind of embarrassing. I’m definitely not a fashion blogger, but I do want a spot where I can take selfies in a mirror as needed. I’ve been working with my interior designer to turn the corner by the window (not shown in the above pictures) into a little selfie area with an ottoman.
Your turn: What’s your favorite thing about your bedroom? What are your thoughts on rainbow bookshelves — annoying or cute?
