I’m not vegan, but I do love me some vegan food! There is no shortage of fabulous vegan spots in NYC… and I’ll argue we rival Los Angeles when it comes to the variety of vegan restaurants out there!
Below is a round-up of some of my personal favorite spots for vegan food in New York City. It’s far from a complete list of restaurants out there, and apologies that it’s mostly downtown Manhattan spots as that’s where I live and gravitate towards.
Enjoy 🙂
Best Vegan Food in NYC
Peacefood Cafe
Greenwich Village & Upper West Side
Peacefood Cafe is the perfect spot for a chill lunch or dinner — or to pick up some quick takeout. While their food is no doubt amazing, where they really shine is their baked good. My parents and many of my far-from-vegan friends have happily eaten dessert from here. It’s not just good for being vegan but genuinely GOOOOOD.
What I Order: The seitan medallion panini for lunch and strawberry cheesecake for dessert.
🥦
Willow
Chelsea
I’ve only ever ordered delivery from Willow but everything I’ve had from them is DELICIOUS. The menu is filled with unique vegan takes on comfort food items like French onion soup and impressive entrees.
What I Order: The truffle mac and cheese is dreamy. I mean what’s not to love about truffles and “cheesy” goodness?
🥦
Urban Vegan Kitchen
West Village
Urban Vegan Kitchen serves up vegan comfort food with a southern flair. The menu offers unique vegan takes on favorites like chicken and waffles.
What I Order: I always make my own bowl with seitan and mac and cheese.
🥦
Jajaja
Lower East Side, Williamsburg, West Village
Vegan Mexican spot Jajaja is a favorite of mine both for delivery and also brunch or dinner with friends. The restaurants couldn’t be cuter, although be prepared to wait during peak times.
What I Order: The nachos are soooooo good.
🥦
V-Spot
Park Slope, East Village
This Latin-infused vegan restaurant is known for its empanadas and other tasty munchies.
What I Order: Avocado fries (brilliant!) and the quesadilla supreme
🥦
Sestina
East Village
I absolutely love Sestina and their fresh vegan pasta. I especially love going with friends and sharing a bunch of different dishes — you can’t go wrong. Bonus that last winter they had heaters for outdoor dining.
What I Order: Tagliatelle truffle, Caesar salad, and the arancini are ALL fabulous.
🥦
Double Zero
East Village
From the same chef as Sestina, Double Zero is known for its eclectic vegan pizzas. No said vegan cheese here, the nut cheeses are all outrageously good. I’ve been here a number of times and always joke with my friend that I can’t remember what I ordered previously, but it’s always GOOD.
What I Order: I love the potato pizza, it’s unique and delicious. The cacio e pepe is also a MUST.
🥦
Orchard Grocer
Lower East Side
I’ve only been here once with a friend, but ugh, I’ve been dreaming about it ever since. Orchard Street Grocery is part vegan eatery, part amazing grocery store. It’s a must for unique vegan finds.
What I Order: The Bowery sandwich.
🥦
Beatnic
Williamsburg, Fashion District, Flatiron, Upper East Side, Midtown, South Street Seaport, Soho, West Village
Beatnic (formerly by Chloe) is almost a fast-food take on vegan food. They boast one of my all-time favorite veggie burgers and their fries are perfection with unique dipping sauces. When by Chloe first opened in 2015 I pretty much went every day for lunch and ate my way through the menu😂
What I Order: Caesar salad, the mac + cheese, or a burger with fries.
