How To Do:  Sun Salutation A

What is Sun Salutation A?

Sun Salutation A is something you'll see towards the beginning of many yoga classes. It's a way to warm-up and get connected with your breath.

1. Tadanana: Mountain Pose

– stand with your feet together – engage your thighs – tuck your tailbone in and down – lift up through the top of your head like someone is pulling you up by a string

2. Urdva Hastasana: arms up over head

– sweep your arms up over head – bring them together above your head and rotate your upper arms inwards and towards each other.

3. Uttanasana: forward fold

– fold forward at your hips – let go of any tension in your neck and arms – option to bend your knees slightly if your hands don’t touch the ground

4. Ardha Uttansana: Lengthen spine + look forward

– press your hands to your shins - lengthen through out spine and engage your shoulders - shift your weight forward

5. Chaturanga Dandasana:  High to Low Plank

– from plank: shift forward to the ball of your feet - bend your elbows back and hug your ribs with your arms.

6. Urdhva Mukha Svanasana: Upward Facing Dog

– flip to the tops of your feet - lift your thighs off of the floor - pull your shoulders down away from your ears.

7. Adho Mukha Svanasana: Downward Dog
