Thank you to everyone for your kind comments, Facebook messages, tweets, texts, etc. I am still beaming with post-half marathon bliss and can’t stop replaying the race in my head. I don’t have another half lined up at the moment… but am starting to research some possibilities for the fall. I did however sign up for the Oakley 10k in June which will be exciting since I ended up skipping that race last year when I didn’t feel prepared to run.
Apparently I was channeling Miley Cyrus at the finish line.
My legs are already feeling much better. Until today I was struggling to walk down stairs… for whatever reason walking up stairs wasn’t so bad, but walking down them was a painful experience. My deepest apologies to anyone that was stuck behind me as I slowly walked down any stairs I encountered wincing.
Part 1 of recovery was a lovely sports massage on Monday to loosen up my muscles. Yesterday I took a spin class to get my legs moving. I didn’t push myself the way I normally would and used less resistance than usual. Coming up out of the saddle was rough with my super sore quads but I was happy to flesh out my legs.
Today I went to Uplift’s Strength class which is a total body workout that burns out each muscle group. In addition to the sections with weights there’s also 2 cardio tabata segments. Before class I told the instructor about my situation. I ended up modifying any move that had impact and worked with lighter weights for the lower body segments. To be honest, if I hadn’t known the instructor and the format of the class very well I probably wouldn’t have felt ready for it today, but since I knew there would be a lot of upper body stuff and I could modify the cardio moves it ended up being a great choice.
Besides my sore quads I’ve been tired since Sunday, which is probably impart due to the 5AM wake up, and probably also because of that whole running a half marathon thing. I’m doing my best to go to bed early (by my standards which means any time before midnight) and take it easy on my body.
I have a few workouts planned for the rest of this week… but I’m going to play it by ear depending on how my body is holding up.
In other news yesterday was my last day of chemistry lab- woot woot!
I actually didn’t mind the lab aspect of chem too much mainly because my lab partner did all the math-y things while I did all the hands on stuff. In my lab coat, gloves and goggles I liked to pretend that I was playing a chemist on an episode of a super TV show #Iwenttocollegeforacting.
Since the semester is slowly coming to an end I’d thought I’d update y’all on what’s going on with life and stuff. Earlier this semester I had decided to drop biology and was no longer interested in pursuing physical therapy. This decision was partially influenced by my new job at ClassPass where I started working part time as an intern in January. I instantly fell in love with working there and was thrilled when they offered me a full time position. Since then I have been doing my best to balance school with part time hours at ClassPass (I decided to not drop chemistry in case I ever need the course for grad school).
Once the semester is over I will begin working full-time at ClassPass on their marketing team doing blog content and aspects of their social media.
I’m so incredibly excited for this next chapter to “officially” begin in a few weeks. It’s going to take some time for me to adjust to “full-time hours” since last year I was working multiple part-time positions which made for a bizarre daily schedule. While I’ll miss watching Sex and the City reruns while eating lunch, I think working a job with “normal” hours is exactly what I want right now. I’m so proud of the growth I’ve already seen from ClassPass since I started working there in January and can’t wait to see how the company continues to expand and grow. I’m also looking forward to no longer saying “I can’t I have to study for a quiz” every Thursday night :).
And on that note… off to go review some chemistry notes. Lucky me!
