Roughly 3.5 years ago, I started this blog. Like many blogs I had previously started, I was vaguely positive I would soon abandon it.
Kayla in the City was created my senior year of college when I was just starting to realize the connection between a healthy body and a healthy wellbeing. While I was always fairly active thanks to being a dancer and stopped eating red meat when I was 9 for whatever reason, reading health and finess blogs in college completely changed my outlook on taking care of yourself.
In college I was constantly being asked the question how do you do it– find the time to exercise. It’s a question I still get asked daily as a young professional. That question is what sparked the need for this blog. At the end of the day I’m just your average NYC girl trying to do it all— build her career, create and maintain friendships, spend time with her boyfriend, see every Broadway show ever and live out a few Sex and the City romanticized dreams of New York. I get it, we’re all busy. And truthfully I work out less now than I previously had because ain’t no body got time for two-a-days
This weekend I was invited to be a part of Lovely Happenings, a big event for bloggers to come gather and share their passion. As I saw my logo printed out and thought about this brand I created for myself, I thought wow I’m really happy I didn’t abandon this bloggy blog like all the others prior.
Blogging can be this embarrassing thing. In the early days of Kayla in the City I didn’t even want to tell my mom I had this blog and I tell my mom almost everything. It felt like this shameful corner of the Internet. My mom eventually found out, then some of my friends started reading it, and then I finally felt comfortable enough to share posts on my personal facebook. Blogging doesn’t have to be this embarrassing thing, because truthfully it’s brought me so many incredible experiences. I’ve visited the Reebok HQ, had my face in a magazine, got a job thanks to my blog and of course have made countless friends from the supportive blogger community in New York.
I wanted to thank you all for reading my little corner of the Internet. For taking an interest in my fitness journey and I want you to know I feel the same way about all of your personal journeys. Whether I know you from high school and you secretly follow my blog or you live on the other side of the country, thank you. Because this blog has undeniably changed my life and every day I’m grateful to the people that actually read what I’m writing.
While this blog is obviously literally about me, hence my name in the title, this blog is about more than that and I of course want this to be relevant to you, whatever your story is. Please always feel free to reach out to me and share your thoughts, what you want to see on KITC. I’m here for ya.
Thank you all again. Sappy moment over.
Love,
Kayla
