I know it’s technically still May but I’m too excited to share some big news related to my June goal 🙂
Revisiting May’s Goals
KonMari the shit out of my apartment. I have become a tidying MACHINE! Seriously, look at my beautiful tank-top/shorts drawer on instagram. I’ll do a more in-depth post about at how I organized my workout clothes and such, but for now I’ll leave you with this: as cheesy as it sounds, the KonMari Method has been pretty life changing. I’m taking some of the advice with a grain of salt, but what I’ve already done has totally transformed my itty-bitty apartment.
Update + reorganize old blog posts. I’ve made some huge strides updating the class review page and doing an SEO makeover on old posts. I’m still working on finding the best way to make this blog easier to navigate since even I forget about some of the content I’ve written over the past 4 years of blogging.
Up my networking game… in a way that works for me. I will never be a social butterfly working the room at a networking happy hour. That’s just not me. I think networking will always be something I have to work on, but in the past month I’ve made an effort to email people I want to connect with in order to set up coffee and workout dates. Connecting with these new people (or people I’ve stalked on social media for years…) has really been useful for helping me brainstorm new ideas and figure out what the hell I want to do with my life. It also never hurts to make new connections.
Is there someone whose career you admire? I dare you to send them an email asking to connect, you’ll be surprised by the positive responses you’ll get!
June’s Goal
Commit myself fully to Yoga Teacher Training.
Yup! I’m going to be participating in Yoga Teacher Training for the next 4 weeks!!
Why Yoga Teacher Training? My hope after graduating the program will be to teach yoga either at a traditional yoga studio or in some other way. I’ve always been drawn to the idea of Yoga Teacher Training because unlike my previous experience becoming a certified personal trainer, it’s a truly hands on curriculum. I’ve always felt like I’m very “book smart” as a personal trainer, but lack some of the personal skills you can’t learn in a book.
I’ve also always been drawn to yoga as a practice because it’s something that I’m not particularly good at– I’m not zen, I’m not bendy, and IÂ definitely can’t do handstands.
Even though I’m not “good” at yoga in a traditional sense, I like that it’s something everyone can and should do. All you need is your body and a little bit of space to move. There are thousands of articles on the benefits of yoga both mentally and physically and I think yoga will only become more and more mainstream—integrated into physical education curriculums and in the work environment to produce overall well-being.
Why now? Yoga Teacher Training is something I’ve wanted to do since I fell in love with yoga at the end of college, but the timing has never worked out until now. I knew a weekend 10-week intensive would be difficult for me because of my semi-long distance relationship– I only get to see my boyfriend on the weekends and didn’t want to give up that time with Jeremy.
I’ve been eying Yoga Vida’s program for the past 4 years, keeping it as an option in the back of my mind. They offer a June intensive and the timing works out perfectly with my current reduced hour work schedule– I’ll still be able to work while attending the program full time for 4-weeks.
Why Yoga Vida? I feel like I’ve always been drawn to Yoga Vida and it’s the studio I consider my “yoga home.” I didn’t do too much research around for other teacher trainings because from what I gather, it’s one of the cheaper options in NYC, which is obviously a plus, and people that graduate from the program have really great things to say about the experience. Instead of torturing myself researching tons of options, I went with my gut and signed up.
So back to my goal…Â My focus for the month of June, besides work, will be on Yoga Teacher Training. It’s 4 weeks of my life for me to be totally devoted to Yoga Teaching Training and learning as much as I can about myself, teaching and of course yoga.
Because of this, blogging will fall to the wayside while I’m participating in teacher training, but of course I’ll come back with lots to chat about regarding my experience and to answer any questions for those curious about teacher training.
Your turn: What are your goals for June?
