Tips For Getting Started With Yoga

Cultivating a yoga practicing can have a myriad of benefits from reducing stress to increasing flexibility.  But getting started can feel overwhelming!  Here are my tips for getting started with yoga.

Take a beginner or basic class

This will help you learn the basic poses that you'll see in most yoga classes.

Let the instructor know you're new

This way they can offer any tips about the class and keep an eye on you for form.

Be gentle with yourself

Learning a new skill can be challenging -- no one likes to feel like a newbie!  Be patient and know that the poses and names will become familiar over time.

Stick with it.

Even if you don't love the first yoga class you take, I challenge you to stick with it.  Try different studios, different instructors, and different vibes. For me it took a while for yoga to go from feeling like the most challenging thing for my brain to an hour of bliss. Don't give up right away!
